So I am playing ININDO: WAY OF THE NINJA right.
The first thing you do is go into a dungeon to get a PASSWORD (it even says YOU SEE A PASSWORD / YOU HAVE TAKEN THE PASSWORD when you open the chest). There are rats and shit in there and when you come out...

Nobunaga has been defeated in battle! After that you travel the world getting ninja spells and recruiting dudes and invading territories and all that kind of stuff. But I have played this game before so I reloaded my savestate and dicked around in the dungeon for a while and THEN:

N-No... No... Nobunaga wins!?!?!?!?
I opened one additional treasure, gained one additional level, killed a few more enemies, took some more steps, spent some more time in the dungeon... so I'm pretty sure it's based on one of those. It might actually have Nobunaga win the battle if it thinks you are GRINDING or whatever, as sort of punishment or something, but chances are it's just random.
The rest of the game is semi-randomized too, in terms of who invades who and travellers' schedules, but this is the big thing you notice since there are PICTURES and shit. I don't think it does anything meaningful, but it was cool seeing that when I was a kid. |
