Long Live The New Flesh: The Films Of David Cronenberg

Canadian doco featuring interviews with Cronenberg, Stephen King and Martin Scorsese. An excellent documentary which allows the director and his supporters and detractors full rein to discuss the many complex issues surrounding his films. Cronenberg comes across as a fascinating if at times rather odd character who always has something interesting to say - much like his films in fact.

The Italian Machine (1976) This isn't really horror, but it does feature Cronenberg's trademark fetishistic attitudes towards machines - in this case, a wild-looking motor enthusiast who becomes obsessed with acquiring a rare classic model currently in possession of a rich man. In fact, he fumes at the prospect of it being used as mere decoration in the latter's house - the film, then, is also a commentary on what constitutes true art (among the rich man's gallery of possessions is even a stud!).

Blue (1992) Earlier collaboration with actor/comedian McKellar (Highway 61) stars Cronenberg as a porn-obsessed white collar worker. Short and very sharp. =

I have organised a festival at the 'Dale on the 4th of January, featuring heaps of prog bands. Its called Feather Fest and its going to be fucking awesome. We're playing at about 8.30 but the day starts at 1.30. Only $12 entry for 12 acts. Super cheap, and amazing talents.

yeah i came here to post this. they were handing out flyers at Peats Ridge. on the way home some random was telling me that if i liked classic rock i should check you guys out, which was neat
i can't remember the whole lineup but i'm not sure that Brian Campeau is 'prog'. he is amazing tho
anyway if i'm recovered from Peats by saturday (and maybe even if i'm not) i'll definatly be at the Annandale. other people should come too!

um thats not Big Star. thats an FBi Fundraiser where every year they get local musos to cover a double album. last year or the year before it was a Neil Young album. i might go, though i might have a gig on Friday. it gets really packed and i kinda don't like alot of FBi people, tho i technically am one

i went to the first night of the Big Star thing... it kicked so much ass. Jamie Hutchinson from Bluebottle Kiss was heartbreaking and the whole thing ended with a Ron Asheton tribute

Actually dude, if you are going, check out a band called Zeahorse. Theyre an amazing three piece psychadelic/grunge/noise/melodic rock band. Blew my mind, frankly.
