Yowza, this is some harsh stuff. How in the heck did you get to the screen you took that screenshot from? Sort of wish I could read all the signs.

The game is actually called Jinsei Owata \(^o^)/ no Daibouken (Life Owata's \(^o^)/ Great Adventure -- I'm not sure what the "Life Owata" is a reference to) -- "Your Life is End" is just a catchy quote found in it. Also, as far as I know it is impossible to win.

The above isn't actually a screenshot of the game; the game emerged from a 2ch meme and that's some of "ASCII" art from 2ch posts (taken from somewhere in here).

The first sign says "Forest", the two signs in the bear area say "reality", the sign above the spike pit says "heaven" and the sign inside the spike pit says "spike heaven" (har har), and the sign above the door says "under construction".

Sorry for not going out of my way to make anything clear in my Axe post. (And by the way, I owe knowing about the game to Moogs in the Games You Played Today thread.) Not that it really matters, since the game is best enjoyed in a fog of confusion!

So, is that the end of it then? Hm. Well, that wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be, though I am curious as to whether that flying rectangle guy plays a role in any screens besides the first one that he appears in.

And to think I got the link to this from the EGM forum at 1up. Everyone there hates it and totally misses the point etc., but I thought you guys would appreciate it.

I wish I could play this away from my computer.

If the game was a lot longer and with more branching paths, I'd totally buy it for GBA. Totally.

This game is like everything I dreamed of playing. Now, if they hid this game in the middle of some edutainment title by some weird glitch you can only find by totally abusing all the bugs and causing the game to lock up, this would be certifiable gold.

Hahaha. And here I am going, "Dear lord, I can't even get past the first screen and yet I totally love that this thing exists." Watching the youtube playthroughs had me shaking my head at the sheer merciless brilliance of it.

And the semi-secret Pedobear fight is just plain classy.

This was the moment the game showed it was worth putting up with.

Guile and Zangief sold me on continuing on and the game just became more brilliant the further I trudged.

I get an enjoyment out of this that I haven't felt since Super Mario Bros 2 for Super Players

There is something amazingly surreal about the game thanks to its ASCI graphics. It's because everything is built out of letters and shapes that seeing something like a giant Pedobear or having a flying lariot Zangief land on me isn't weird or out there at all.

It's really an amazing sensation. I wonder if it would feel the same if it was actually drawn with sprites and pixels.

So I've spent 30 minutes in a dead end...

I love this game.

I just realized that the guy's name, Jinsei Owata is a pun on jinsei owatta, meaning "Life ended". (Obvious really, I should've seen that immediately...) So I guess calling the game "Your Life Is End" is fairly accurate after all!

The best part for me is when the large rectangle guy ditches you. I laughed for 2 minutes straight when i died.

Also do the ASCII poses(try pressing F, N and O and you'll see what i mean) do anything beside completely stopping your movement?

The irony of James enjoying this game but complaining about older Castlevania games does not escape me.

I thought it was Rondo of Blood and the more recent ones he despised.

Hey this game really isn't half as hard as you're all making it out to be, but it is delightfully sadistic and totally fun.

Kinda short, though. This is still being developed, I hope? I'd love to see what this guy comes up with for a boss battle!

Yeah the only part that actually continues to be difficult is the initial screen. Everything else is easy once you have done it once. And usually you know exactly what to do after you die.
