I picked up Wind Waker again. Are the wallmasters and the bird girl in the Earth Temple blatant homages to Ico or am I just crazy?

Unless you wanted to play Saturn Mode.

Also, how easily does MAME handle the 7 button set-up for RSG?

Do you know if Radiant Silvergun's top scorers used the home port or the arcade version? Because Ikaruga's top players used the arcade version which also had less buttons (two buttons vs Dreamcast/GC/Live's 3 but still). There's got a be an advantage to having all the shots assigned to button combinations close to each other. Seven buttons spread out over the entire controller sounds ridiculous.

I am extremely pleased to find out first hand that not only does OutRun 2 work on the 360, but it still looks damn gorgeous, too.

Sadly, they switched off the online play and leader boards on both the original and Coast 2 Coast back in April(For the best as the Back Compat bugs included the voice chat being garbled). And I still ended up with a lot of heart attack top 10 places on C2C. Godspeed old live friend.

Last night I had a friend over and we enjoyed some smash bros. brawl and played some culdcept saga matches. I played the Saturn Culdcept a while ago, and the with whatever default deck I have, the 360 game feels extremely similar.

well, if you're using mame32, you can set more than one command to a button. so you can set a button that'll be A+B, etc. so just do that.

I've been enjoying Ridge Racer 6 a whole lot.

I'll probably get Ridge Racer 7 so I'd have something else to play on my PS3, aside from Metal Gear

I'm usually just playing Moochmaster IIDX and Find-A-Job 360, mostly. High scores in the former, low ones in the latter.

Outside of that, it's just been the same ol'. Went to mess about with some cruddy ITG2, hated Target Terror, something something Jets 'n Guns Gold. Now I'm moping at how I'm not good/bad enough to win BIG MONEY and BIG PRIZES in the Star Soldier R competition while a friend plays Mario 64 on the Oui.

I'd like to try some 360 Culdcept sometime. I guess I'd also like to track down the PS2 one again, but I'll save that thought for when I can afford it.

These guys always use the arcade versions for top scoring. Thing is, they use modified cabs in order to nail their top scores. RSG in many Japanese arcades has a 7-button set-up. And Ikaruga actually has a 4-button set-up in many arcades (Shot, Change Polarity, Wind Laser Release, Auto Rensha [releases a rapid fire single shot stream, like you were tapping Shot really fast]).

In fact, more often than not, the arcade iterations end up having far more complicated button lay-outs than any home version ends up getting.

As for RSG.. the 7-button set-up is actually quite efficient and very precise.

Put about 30 minutes into Final Fantasy Tactics A2. The main character is really "NO WAY MOM I ONLY DRINK SODA" but the bad guys look nice and hard mode is actually pretty hard. I'll continue playing Etrian Odyssey 2, however, since that game seems like it will be far more rewarding.

Also, I started playing around with mods for UT3, and I'm pretty excited to make something weird in UnrealEd.

I just got P.N. 03, so I'm alternating between that and Etrian Odyssey 2. Otherwise I know I'm going to give up on EO2 without something to buffer between my sessions.

P.N.03 is hard! I have to play on easy mode.

Picked up Battlefield: Bad Company. It's nowhere as bad as Modern Combat was, and is quite enjoyable when you intentionally go faster and more recklessly than you should. I won't touch multiplayer for a few days, maybe even until next week.

Where as the demo for Gears was 1/5 of the full game, the demo for BF:BC on XBL is about 1/30th of the full single player campaign.

You know.. I snagged this ages ago for cheap but could never get into it.. it just didn't click with me.

Been playing lots of Metal Slug recently. Been switching back and forth between the Saturn and PS1 ports.. mainly because I've been trying to max out my rank in the Combat School mode (I had no idea about the Press Start thing when you first enter to sorta switch things over to date-sim mode).

I picked up the XBLA Prince of Persia remake the other day. Its pretty nice as it remakes the original with more of a focus on movement and momentum like Sands of Time. It all flows incredibly well, almost Sonic/Donkey Kong Country like. Its still a little sticky though, particularly combat and it still has a lot of instant kill traps. Surprised more people didn't hop on this on its release, its still worth the 800 points I reckon.

It actually becomes very easy if you play very slow and methodically and pay attention to the enemy patterns. After that it just becomes a matter of not getting hit. Also, I think your hitbox is significantly smaller than the whole of your body when jumping, so you might want to abuse that.

I enjoyed this game for what it was, but in all honesty RE4: Mercenaries mode is just so much more mechanically fulfilling. I think it probably has more content also (ha-ha).

After posting this I proceeded to rip through 10 out of the 11 levels on easy. I'd misplaced my memory card so I couldn't save.

Then we had a power outage, so I think I'll start over on normal again.

About RE4 though, yeah, I'm sure it would be a better game to sink into, but I'm just looking for a game to space out EO2. Plus, I tend to lose interest in non-gimicky unfocused games anyway. The only games I've finished this year was Portal.

I played Contra 4 today. It was 20 bucks and so far ive restarted from the beginning about 10 times and got to the end of level 2.

I dunno but this game just doesnt seem to suit the DS very well and the vertical screen mechanic is actually pretty disorienting for my puny brain. I really hate that its on the DS actually.

"Hardened" seems to be working out. Was a little concerned that things'd get bogged down in their own challenge at this setting (as I found to be the case going fresh into Gears on "Hardcore"), but thus far, it's proving smooth enough and zesty enough for my faculties.

Because they don't have a time limit, aside from A Wonderful Life on the Gamecube?

I haven't minded the series on the handhelds (aside from SNES, the only ones I've played) up until I finish whatever goal I've set for myself, then the game drags. And that is about the time it gets relegated to playtime during boring lectures or movies. Makes it bearable, for both activities!

Why do you think the new ones suck?

Man yeah. Shenmue 2 being my second favorite game, and I couldn't stand the xbox version to get off the pier.

The book stacking and the balancing act are both pretty great scenes. I don't like to play them at all, but pretty great.

One of these days I'll actually write something on it.

Still cranking away at the original quest in Persona 3: Fes. I'm not sure if I'm going to play through the whole thing, or if I'm just going to stick with it long enough to finish up some of the Social-link sidestories (which are my favorite part of the game) and abandon it to play through The Answer.

so i'm three hours into re:4 (wii) and hoooly craaaaap

so tense, so immersive, great level design

i don't even give a shit about zombies or horror movies in general but i guess i like playing them

Oh man, the Shenmue series sucks. It was a novel idea in Shenmue 1, but Shenmue 2 just shat all over itself until you got to the awesome tower level. Then it shat all over itself by making you talk to that boring girl for an hour. Then it jumps the shark with that magical sword thing. Then the next game in the series never, ever comes out, so it ends on the mother of all cliffhangers.

Fuck Shenmue.

you guys how hilarious and awesome was it when you get out of the mansion to find a dude with a paper bag on his head wielding a chainsaw and he's practically invincible so you retreat but holy shit he's so fast and he chases you back through the house and decapitates you

the boss battles have been really lame though

well that was the first thing i did and i saw him burst into flames so, assuming i'd got him, i turned to the right to look for breakables only to look back a second later and HOLY SHIT DECAPITATED

the second time i threw the grenade, then tried retreating into the house for a more strategic shooting spot but he was six times faster than anybody else

finally i ended up using both grenades i had and a round from the tmp and that did the trick

weird

I'm guessing you missed the shotgun? That usually does the trick.

Later on in the game I like sticking mine darts on chainsaw dude. Then again, I like sticking mine darts on everything. :)

I shot a poor hapless chicken with one once in a fit of cruelty. It freaked out, jumped a fence, and took out two cows with it when the dart exploded.
