that's really...interesting
i think i'd like it more if you didn't start at the first screen after dying.
but it's the kind of thing i feel compelled to keep playing, oddly enough. |

i'm trying to play through Romancing Saga. i tried once about a year ago when i bought it (or whenever it came out), but i think i just got distracted and gave up. this time, i'm really trying to appreciate it and work my way through some of the different characters.
i started with Jamil and died without saving, so i decided to restart with Gray.
anything i should try to keep in mind? the game just seems extremely open. the lack of apparent linearity is sort of an odd feeling. |

well, i like Izuna, but i don't really know if i'd recommend it because it seems to be fairly mediocre in the eyes of many.
i think it's fun to play in short bursts without really thinking too much about it. because, yes, other roguelikes have done what Izuna does but better. |

what are your thoughts on Tenchu Z? i downloaded the demo and it seemed better than i expected it would be, but i just don't know if i could justify dropping $60 on it. is there much more to it than the demo shows? |

Armored Core 4 is one of my favorite games of this year. i had never played any other entries in the series (well...i played one but it didn't go over well), BUT i recommend you try a few missions and that you really spend some quality time looking at parts and weapons and try everything out.
the game sort of requires that you spend time just testing out different combinations of things in the simulator until you have something that feels comfortable. also, some combinations work better on some missions, so it's not a bad thing to lose in the game if it means you learned something.
behind all of the intricacies that go into making a workable Next lies some really satisfying gameplay, i think. |

ok, so i haven't really played anything as of late, but i'm really planning to. some thread around here recently brought up Tactics Ogre, and i've owned the game on PS1 since it came out. i, like other people i'm seeing, assumed that you had to do training in order to progress and it completely turned me off initially. so now i'm thinking of giving it another go to see what i think years after the fact.
also, i'm considering getting Final Fantasy on PSP for some reason. |

it still manages to look really nice, yea.
if there's anything about Legend of Mana that i wish had been handled differently, it would have to be the multiplayer aspect.
but other than that, it's a beautiful game. |

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
this game is still wonderful. i haven't played through the game in a really long time, so i figure this might be the right time to do it. it's sort of a shame that no other CV games ever followed the template that this one set up, but perhaps it's for the best that this idea wasn't run into the ground like SotN.
though the townsfolk aren't helpful in the least (aside from the occasional tip to buy a white crystal), i find CVII a lot easier to navigate than Metroid. things seem to be more coherent. even if they aren't, the world makes a lot more sense to me, where as Metroid's world just seems to sprawl out endlessly and make no sense. i can make a map of CVII's world in my head, whereas i can't do that with Metroid.
they're both very different games with very different aesthetics, but they share a sort of free-roaming sensibility.
anyway, i'm happy this was finally released on the VC. |
