I beat the last case in Phoenix Wright 2 this morning.
I don't think I'll ever touch that shit again. |
I'm in the middle of the last case and it just occurred to me that it is very very frustrating and really not entertaining anymore! But I've come this far, I may as well slog through. With a walkthrough. There are a lot of arbitrary puzzle solutions in this game! (Supposedly Gyakuten Saiban 3 is actually good again. But Capcom says they won't let us have 3 unless we all buy 2. Maybe that is why this last case has a strong pro-extortion message?) |

| From playing this and Earthbound, I'm also getting interested in the original Dragon Quest RPGs. Given I have access to DS, GBA, and emulation of NES and SNES, what's a good Dragon Quest game to begin with? |
Dragon Quest III's remake for GBC (in English as Dragon Warrior) and SNES (Japan only, no translation patch available yet) is a good start. DQ3 is when the series really came into its own, and the remakes are a lot more user friendly than the original. Dragon Warrior IV on the NES is also solid, with a much stronger emphasis on character development, though it's a bit more cumbersome to play than the remake of DQ3.
Dragon Quest 1 & 2 are also available as a compilation for GBC and SNES (and the SNES version has several complete fan translations), but are not nearly as compelling, even with the remakes' enhanced interface and reduced emphasis on grinding. DQ1 has only one playable character who cannot be customized at all, and is very formulaic nearly all the way through; DQ2 is interesting but somewhat unplayable for a variety of reasons (primarily the often brutal difficulty, and the lack of both direction and directions starting about a third of the way in).
Still, DQ1 is very short, and if you've never played it before you'll miss out on some neat references to it in DQ3. If you're a fan of stilted, faux-Shakespearian Engrish, and don't mind a never-ending mind-numbing grind, you may want to give the NES original a whirl. Wilt thou play me? But thou must! |
