| I've been doing research for a game I'm working on. Played some 2.5D games... Yoshi's Story, Klonoa, Sonic Rush. Man... it really sucks how these games just can't achieve any sort of atmosphere that doesn't feel coated in clown makeup. I really wish there was a side-scrolling platformer with as much sensitivity as the Knytt games. Maybe there is, and I just don't know it yet? |

Mass Effect, about 5 hours in. I will never play this game again. After not enjoying the first hour, I thought hey, it's going to be fun when it opens up a little. It didn't! In fact, it got worse once I had to drive that batmobile. Man, this is hands down the most boring game I've played in at least the last 6 months, if not more. I like the story OK, but this is the way the game works:
* have some pretty cool dialog.
* oh no bad guys.
* shooting that isn't fun.
* more talking, but at the end they don't tell you what you should be doing now.
* check your journal.
* look at your map and see if anything in your journal is on it.
* wander around for 5 minutes.
* oh no bad guys.
* more shooting that isn't fun.
* hey let's drive that stupid car thing again.
* wander around some more.
Just so much aimless wandering. They give you this super high-tech radar system but it's WORTHLESS when you don't know where to go. And man, the RPG screens are offensive. Does it honestly make sense to the designers of this game that the main character, who is apparently the most bad ass of the human millitary, would need to talk to everyone and open every single door on the SHIP THEY COMMAND so they could talk to the person the game is waiting for? Man, I just hate this game so much I want to puke. |

Thanks, you just saved me another two hours. |
I have absolutely NO idea how this game is getting so well reviewed. It's a worse game than KotOR 2, which the industry bemoaned as a sloppy rush job. There are some things I really liked in the Mass Effect story sequences, but the game was just SO BAD.
And all of the game advertisements and developer interviews are obnoxious HEY MAN REMEMBER WHEN I PUNCHED THAT DUDE NO WAY I DIDN'T PUNCH THAT DUDE WHEN I PLAYED bullshit. |

I'm in the mood for Hot Tactical Robot Action, but I can't decide which way to go with it.
I have Front Mission in my DS, Front Mission 3 in my PSP, Super Robot Wars Original Generation 1&2 in my GBA SP and GBA Micro, and Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 in my PS2.
I just can't figure out where I should be spending my time.
Although I think I'm leaning towards Front Mission 3. |

Put about 30 minutes into Final Fantasy Tactics A2. The main character is really "NO WAY MOM I ONLY DRINK SODA" but the bad guys look nice and hard mode is actually pretty hard. I'll continue playing Etrian Odyssey 2, however, since that game seems like it will be far more rewarding.
Also, I started playing around with mods for UT3, and I'm pretty excited to make something weird in UnrealEd. |
