was the cheapest thing I could find that had a camera >1mp and took microSD. The OS is pretty bad and the camera is by no means good, but for the $20 it cost to upgrade + $5 9mm jack dongle + $5 2gb microSD, it definitely does what I want it to. |

I have a horrible phone that my parents got for free like four years ago. These days I only see it sold as a prepaid phone, to give you an idea of the quality. _________________

internisus: I used to sell the EnV2. It's actually a rather decent phone, as long as you text more than talk. Talking on the handset itself can be somewhat uncomfortable; if you talk a lot, think about a headset, Bluetooth or otherwise. For texting, though, it's pretty damn good.
I currently use an iPhone 3G, although a friend of mine gave me an old Moto SLVR. I think it's the L2; the one with no options but Bluetooth. I am, however, very possibly about to score an HTC Innovation from a friend of mine, which is pretty cool, right? |

Works fine, designed for texting obviously. Has two speakers on the inside so that's a pretty big plus, for me anyway. Pretty stable, I have had it crash on me about 3 times - I've had this for 9 months now I think. Decent battery life. I like the size and feel of it. The phone is also now supported in BitPim. Keypad is nice for phone games if you want to go that route. (The selection blows though) Keys light up both on the interior and exterior.
Cons:
Clear finish wears off quickly, chrome paint outline scratches easily
I've had it call people and do all sorts of funky crap while it's been sitting in my pocket - not enough to dissuade me from recommending the phone but it does happen.
No flash on the camera, but the camera itself is decent.
Not easy to talk on the phone hands-free, I.E. holding the phone in place with your shoulder.
Not sure if this is a con to you or not, but a lot people are using this model now. _________________ Man, I'm sorry. |

Wow, I wasn't expecting a full review. This is very helpful! And yes, I know what you mean about "a lot of people are using this model now" being a potential con. Yeah, I'd like something hip and unknown, but my understanding is that this is the best all-around phone below the "smartphone"/PDA/iphone/blackberry range, and I have no real need for those types of devices.
So I guess if you don't mind a last question on the subject, do you have a recommendation for a phone that you like better? Because it kind of sounds like you think I could do better than this, even if it is a decent gadget. |

Oh man that looks kinda neat. I think I might look into that.
I'm currently using an old (2002 maybe?) Nokia I had to borrow from a friend, as I dropped my Razr in the toilet a few months ago. Texting on the toilet is dangerous business. |

Nah, not really. I rather like the little thing - my only other choice would be an expensive smartphone type, and that quite frankly is not something I need either. _________________ Man, I'm sorry. |
