You can't possibly be Driver refined without a) really messed up physics and b) the most fantastic replay system ever created.

I still think of the collective "OH SHIT!" those Driver people must've uttered when they first popped GTA3 into their PS2 devkits. After all, for the longest time Driver was the only urban driving simulator game in town, and part two even let you exit and enter vehicles! I spent my first two hours with GTA3 in a sort of trance, absolutely marvelling at how much bigger, how much better this game did everything that Driver once claimed to do and then some. And when that first gang member came after me for hitting his homie? I was...flabbergasted.* Vice City was not as exciting. I only looked forward to the new city, and the motorcycles. It took San Andreas, with its massive real estate and RPG features, to really impress me again.

*I'd never played GTA1 or 2, so it was ALL new to me. Wish I could feel that way about a game again.

I never did check out that Stuntman game. Wasn't it basically the fun parts of Driver condensed? Surely it had a replay mode!

Stuntman was Driver with all of the headaches and none of the exploration really. It was pretty terrible, if I'm remembering the game correctly.

To contribute for real, I thought GTA:VC took a lot of GTA3 and really made it better. I liked VC the most out of the trilogy or whatever it is, mostly because by the time I got San Andreas I think I was starting to get tired of the formula and San Andreas has so much in it that it is simply overwhelming at times. I think GTA:SA is the kind of game where they simply present the player with TOO MUCH to do.

Stuntman had no replays. Nobody has those replays aside from Driver games, sadly.

I did kinda like Stuntman for what it was, in that it allowed them to structure what was happening and make a bunch of really neat things happen. Sadly it structured it all way too much, made it very hard to accomplish those goals, and then didn't really have any sort of checkpoint system or anything to make it any simpler.

So yeah, it wasn't any fun.

I liked the feeling of quasi-flight when you got hit by two police cars at the same time. I miss the second-to-last-gen :(

Wow, whole lot of hate on Stuntman in this thread.

I had a lot of fun with Stuntman. As boojiboy7 mentioned it was a heavily structured game. It didn't have replays, instead it only had little trailer sequences for the movies your character completed.

Even as someone who really did enjoy the levels of Stuntman, I have to say, the loading times absolutely kill the game. I had my computer on when I played it so that I could play other games during the loading.

I don't know, without the load times as a punishment for failure it probably wouldn't have created the same feelings of excitement.

I made it about 2/3 of the way through SA and then my saved file was corrupted.

I didn't have the will to plow through the big and empty all over again and stopped forever.
