4 objects attached by springy lines.
two blue circles are wheels the two red circles are things that must not touch the ground.
Each generation is of 20 cars.
They start randomly.
Traits that works sticks and random mutations are introduced every generation.
Depending on how lucky you are you may have to wait several generations before anything resembling a car will appear. Reload if its taking to long.

that's neat, but it would be much more interesting if the terrain was randomly generated at the start. as it is, we'll only see a few good solutions that are local maxima. the mutation function miiight be able to kick it out of that, if there is a true maxima for this terrain.
still, version 2 needs random terrain so we can see it evolve unique solutions. probably wont happen though, this looks like someone's final project for an evolutionary algorithms class (though i would give this project an A) _________________

I think the consistent terrain and represents the creatures having the same environmental difficulties to overcome. For example it might take awhile before they evolve flipping over on bump #55 and observing how particular problems can completely confound one system while others that develop sail past early on is pretty interesting. (which is not to say I dont agree with you) _________________ Mixtapes galore ~ VG MUSIC

This guy taught a class in A-life I took in 1995 or so, he does some interesting evolving things:
http://ventrella.org/
mostly he's into things that swim, but he's done walking as well
Plus his site has a nice gravity tetris demo that was kind of a precursor to that Little Big Planet thing... _________________

wasn't there something like that that would run through mario levels?
the car one fascinates me, if there are any more complicated than it I'd definitely like to see them. _________________
