OFFICIAL PERSONA 4 LIVE PLAY THREAD
===========================================================================
Man that homeroom teacher is a jerk. I told him to fuck off and gained some courage.
Then he started bitching about how kids are always on their phones checking "life-journals" and "my-places."
Ah, Atlus. So good.
The dub is god too, surprisingly.
Will continue as I go.

I kinda wish Yukiko had a hotter voice.
Chie's voice is kinda husky in an annoying way.
I figure they'd grow on me though. They're both pretty appropriate for their characters, I guess.
That kid sister of yours is pretty moe. I was surprised. :/
I think that Junes song will be stuck in my head too, after Daphny mentioned it. _________________

Man, the title screen is really cool. It has your team's silhouettes walking around, and then when you press a button, it goes into this upshot perspective of a silhouette of your character running as the only transparent part of the screen while everything else is yellow.
It's fancy pants, this game. I told my friend that if P3 is like Prince, then P4 is like Michael Jackson when he was hotshit. _________________

Man, during the school assembly, there's a kid in the back where the text box covers that has the same hands-in-pockets posture as the main character in P3. I wonder if they used the same animation data. _________________

Teddy is pretty cute. I like how pathetic he is.
It's too bad about Saki senpai. She seemed like a nice girl and I grew to like her after her 4 lines of dialogue. _________________

Haha, I laughed when Chie threw the rope at Yosuke's face.
I can't help but notice when the animation switches from having an object attached to a character and when it's switched to being by itself. They're kind of bad about it. For example, when the main character puts his soda on the table - it snaps on to the table suddenly instead of transitioning smoothly between the hand and letting it go on to the table. Another is when he gets the golf club from Yosuke - it snaps on to his hand suddenly. The rope thing too.
I mean, it's understandable since it's just a game and they have time working against them. I just notice it because it's an annoying problem I had when trying working in 3d too.
There was a nice bit of animation though when he's eating in front of Junes with Chie and Yosuke where he grabs the drink across the table. It was pretty nicely done - smooth and natural. _________________

Hmm, I like how this game actually deals with the idea of what a persona is. The other games used it as a theme but this one pretty much blatantly describes it and makes you confront it a lot. It's interesting.
I named myself after that concept too. The facade that one puts up in social situations - I thought it was an appropriate name for a lie you become when you go online. I only got into SMT games later when I found out there was a game series that shared the name.
Also, Margaret is pretty lame compared to Elizabeth. Her voice seems inappropriate for what her role is too, like some plane stewardess. I think it'd have been better if she sounded more disenchanted and emotionless with her role, like a robot. On the other hand, I always liked Igor though ever since the first game. His voice in these recent games have been very satisfying.
Here was a 4koma I did last summer for the Persona 3 doujinshi my friends made. It relates to this very topic:

MAAAAN IT'S TURNED INTO SCOOBY DOOOOOOOO
Haha, Yosuke says "I feel like someone gave me this power."
It's too bad that person who gives everyone their power HASN'T BEEN MENTIONED SINCE PERSONA 2. I mean, he only shows up as a reference in the intro to P3 too!
Poor Philemon - previously a master of Igor and the other world, now he's been delegated to becoming a butterfly that doesn't even show up in P4. _________________

Ahahah, Chie had a pretty good delivery of a line. It was, "and you were all, 'Is Yukiko-san inside that place..?' Hmph..."
All the lines are delivered pretty well so far. Also awesome work on the localization. This is why Atlus is tops. :o _________________

Why does Yosuke have a katana and giant dagger in his closet at home?
How did he fit those in his pocket in the first place..? _________________

Oh, the butterfly appears as a save point.
You're so sassy, Philemon.
I like how the Velvet Room theme is always the same for every game. It's such a catchy tune.
Also, I like how in this game everyone is fighting for more normal reasons rather than the noble cause of fighting shadows destroying the city during a dark hour. It's also more relatable when they talk about how they have to hide their armor and equipment under their uniforms before they meet up at the local mall to enter the bizarroworld to fight monsters.
It's pretty good, this game.
Also, I like how since P3 the protagonist is the only one who can equip multiple Personas. In the first three anybody could equip whatever Persona you gave them - it'd just cost more MP to use attacks if the persona wasn't compatible with their personality. By singling out the main character alone to have that power, he suddenly gets more importance. Likewise, the side characters get more identity now that they have a single Persona that develops with them, revealing what kind of personality they have through the moves they learn.
The Persona games have become a lot more approachable in general. They really are the best Megaten games for non-fans and people new to the series to approach. _________________

Man, I wish the portraits had at least 2 more drawings for their blinking animation. It's just too abrupt to do it in one drawing and just for a frame like that. :/
I like how they all hear things that trigger their shadows to come out and start taunting them. What would your shadow say about things you didn't want to hear? _________________

Man, Chie's shadow is pretty hot. It's like this towering bondage master on her million tentacled puppet slave. I like how the legs on the bottom are quivering because it has to support the entire weight of both the master on otp but also all the legs and tentacles around it. It's really nice.
So far the design sensibility of this game is like a thousand times improved over P3. It's pretty amazing! _________________

Oh hell, it was actually a bunch of faceless schoolgirls stacked on top of each other as a scantily clad armor-wearing dominatrix was sitting on top, her hair reaching to the floor and curling up as tentacles, complete with the two pointy spade arms a squid has.
Man, that is some fucking awesome monster design right there. Fuck. _________________

Man, I'm just a few hours in and already it's more compelling than P3. Every change to the game feels like it's been implemented to make you care more about the scenario and characters. The town is smaller so you can personally run around everywhere and talk to your neighbors, you have a family to return home to and care about, the battles are all personal and you're fighting to save your friends and neighbors and not for some lofty greater good.
It's really amazing.
Atlus go go.
Too bad their DS SMT game looks pretty dumb.
Oh, I also like how you can't say smarmy smooth lines earlier on because you're not courageous enough to say it out loud. They give you the option but you can't use it! It's such a tease, it's great. _________________

Realistically, you should probably wait until the game is like 20 bucks or something. I don't know if you'd really enjoy it that much if you have a low tolerance of JRPGs or of lolanime.
P3 was a lot more lolanime than this though. So far this is pretty cool.
Man, Valkyria Chronicles is like entirely lolanime in a cheesy but nice way. _________________

Man, the battle theme is pretty damn catchy! It's a lot better than the dumb dungeon music anyway.
I keep mishearing the song as "I'm a lesbian; I'm a thespian" in the chorus though. _________________

The sixth sick shiek's sixth sheep's sick!
Man, the drama club's vice president girl is all forehead. She's kinda bitchy hot though.

Man, Nanako is Justice.
| Quote: |
This character seems impartial, representing integrity and incorruptibility.
In the right position, the Justice represents equity, virtue, impartiality, stability...
In the reversed position, this tarot card represents hypocrisy, intolerance, instability... |
The shadow of Nanako would be pretty annoying. :/ _________________

Man, the Fox is a Hermit!
| Quote: |
The Energy: Mind, Illumination, Prognostication
The Hermit has found his destination in life. He solves problems with understanding and wisdom. Thus he does not create new obstacles in his way. He is an example, because he longs for a peaceful future.
Concentrate on your actual concerns. Do not waste your energy, but care for only one thing at a time. The Hermit asks you for greatest sensitivity when you are dealing with people. Try to understand the feelings of others and respect them. |
A wise creature that lives a solitary life. I wonder why he approaches the main character to do his work?
Is there DEATH locked up in him as a child or something? _________________

Dojima is the Hierophant!
| Quote: |
The Energy: Revelation, Determination, Faith
The task of the High Priest - The Hierophant - is the mediation between the ever-changing world of busy life and eternal truth. Seeking the truth and hidden signs he shows the way of consciousness.
If you are guided by The Hierophant you may entirely rely on yourself in your decisions. You own truth and knowledge already – find them within yourself. Calm your mind and your emotions. Meditation is the key to truthful awareness. |
He seems like a guy who is guided by his own judgement alright. _________________

The detective reverse-trap wears the same pants that the kids in SMT If wear.
Well, I can't find images of him/her in his/her original outfit, but I could swear she was wearing those pants.
