I'm pretty glad that I didn't play any of the Resident Evil games that came before this one. This game is the perfect entry point to the series for anyone else who missed the boat like I did.

Incendiary grenades probably put too big of a smile on my face for it to be completely healthy. For some reason, I always felt safer when I had them in my inventory. They filled me with a weird bravado.

The shady arms dealer should have his own game.

My wife actually wouldn't ALLOW me to play RE4 unless she was there. One of only two games I've ever encountered where that happened (other one was Eternal Darkness). I said I'd go back and load a save file to replay sections she missed, but she didn't go for that either. I was sort of afraid of what she would do if I didn't obey, especially with chainsaw guys putting ideas in her head. She really liked that game. Didn't want to play it, just watch - she actually played Eternal Darkness.

You know, you'd be surprised how many people (male and female alike) really enjoy watching a game be played instead of playing it themselves. For example, I love to watch my friend play Beatmania but never really want to do it myself.

RE5's protagonist should be able to grab two zombies by the head and bash them together. That's pretty much the only way you could wind up with someone more bad ass than Leon.

I had the same experience, only very vaguely dabbling in other REs beforehand. I mean, the series interests me, and I've always wanted to play it, but avoided it because of the notorious control scheme/I'm a pussy.

Though, I found that RE4 wasn't all that scary. At first it was, but then I just kicked so much ass I couldn't be scared. I'd step up to them zombies, kicked them down, and shotgun straight to the face. Going back through the thread, this quote seems to sum it up:

While I never found RE4 to be scary, in any way, there were definite moments of forboding where I was well aware that some shit was about to go down in a serious way. I would feel dread, although it was more akin to feeling like "aw, shit" than actual nervous tension.

The only thing that bothered me in the castle was the suits of armor that had plagas in them - the first time I saw one move I sort of went "Oh come now, that really is rather much"... and adjusted my monicle.

I hear ya - I basically squint from the beginning of May until the end of September.

I have heavy wooden blinds on my windows that I usually keep shuttered unless I need extra light to work by.

Anybody here seen Children of Men? There's a few parts that are RE4 as fuck and they made me giggle at times I should not have.

Spoilers:

There's a part involving a flaming car being rolled down a hill into a barricade (so as to block off a road that our protagonists are driving down) that also involved a screaming mob of people waving improvised weaponry that sort of made me go LOL GANADOS. Also the end of the movie involves an immigrant internment camp that becomes sort of a warzone - which brought to mind the final island in RE4 and maybe also the village, too.

I'm sure there's other stuff I could think of if I really stretched it, but those two are good enough. If you see the movie you might agree, although it may be because of all the RE4 discussion I've been reading lately that it occured to me at all.
