And here I thought I might never find something to agree with you on JamesE.
My favorite moments of the game have to come from the Mercenaries mode. I once found double donger asleep in a room.
"Is he asleep?"
--"I don't know."
shoots double donger with the shotgun
-Then runs, literally screaming, from the room as double donger springs to life revving up his two chainsaws. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

The only problem with RE 4 is that the village is so awesome is makes the castle disappointing. If the castle had been before the village the game would probably have been perfect.
The jump from classic RE to RE 4 is one of the biggest and best in a franchise, though. I'd like to see the GTA series get the Resident Evil 4 treatment - you know, great controls and great gameplay without taking away any of what made the previous games awesome. |
But then you invade, um, I don't know, the Mexican Nazi revolutionary forces? I really don't know how else to explain that quasi-military part, but it was still pretty sweet.
Edit: And come to think of it, I never realized how well the bosses of RE4 matched with the stages leading up to them. Bravo RE, bravo. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

Wait till you unlock Hunk and Wesker. Krauser is still the best, especially since he can make clouds of blood, but those two have some fantastic quick time events.
And I really wish they would have let you play through the game with those characters. It wouldn't have made any sense, but it's not like I care about silly things like that. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

| Indeed, the few classic RE puzzles present really stick out. Mainly I think of the one behind the church. |
Wasn't that one entirely optional though? I'm pretty sure it just gave you a shiny for the Beer Mug. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

If you really want to abuse a magnum then you might like the gun you get for 5 starring every Mercenaries level. It's pretty fucking beastly. However it is actually too over powered with I think 99 damage and unlimited ammo. But hey, it's still fun to mess around with. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

| Yeah, I still have to go through Mercenaries. I tried it way back when, after I first beat the game, and I wasn't very good at the game so I sucked at getting combos. But it's the same system as PN03 right? |
I've never played PN03, so I really can't speak to that. However, you should at least play Mercenaries enough to unlock Krauser (get a 4-star rating in the Castle Mercenaries map with anyone). It'll take some doing, and it's pretty frustrating, but Krauser is worth it. I'd actually say that he's more worth it than the Handcannon. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

Crap, can anyone confirm this? I just read that you can get a mafia costume for Leon in the PS2 version, which sounds absolutely fantastic. If this is true then I might just have to re-buy this game. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

This is absolutely true, though the complementary costume for Ashley is wonderful gameplaywise while simultaneously killing the on-screen coolness.
I think the mafia costume's supposed to be a visual homage to Harman Smith from killer7. |
Fuck, now I've got another game to buy. Thanks for the confirmation. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

My favorite line is when Sadler laughs after you tell him that you just killed Salazar. It's just such a great laugh, kind of a "I see what you did there.......prick" laugh. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

Man, that's your problem right there. Once you get past, I'd say the first boss, it becomes considerably less scary and jumpy. It becomes much more about eradicating intelligent zombies with your vast arsenal and participating in the suitcase shuffle minigame. There are a few boss fights later which may make you fell a little on edge, but you can breeze through them with a rocket launcher with ease.
If you can't get into the game because it's actually about massacring zombies, then I can't help you. In RE4 or in life. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

I bought this game the day it came out on the Gamecube, and to be honest, I could never bring myself to beat it. I never really got too into it.
The village was fun enough, but I just wasn't feeling the castle. By the time I found out that I was expected to traverse a HEDGE MAZE, I had had it with the game. Open door, see hedge maze, turn off game.
So now I see everyone talking about how awesome it is, and how even MORE awesome the Mercenaries game is, and all this. I decide to give it another try. I have just come to the hedge maze again. Now, I've heard time and time again, people tell me "man, the hedge maze isn't so bad". It's hard -- almost impossible, at times -- to explain to them that it's not that I think it's DIFFICULT, but that I disagree with the hedge maze on a fundamental level.
Tell me, guys. I haven't actually tried the thing, but will I be disgusted if I actually try to get through the hedge maze? How can I survive this thing? |
I don't understand. What's wrong with the Hedge maze? It's got zombie dogs, so you might consider that a plus. And it's not a particularly complicated or long hedge maze. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

Like I said, I disagree with the idea of a hedgemaze in an otherwise streamlined game on the most fundamental level. The game has, in my eyes, jumped the shark at this point. |
Oh, see, I didn't understand what you meant when you said that it was fundamentally against the nature of the game.
Honestly, if you don't like sharks being jumped, you should probably stop right now. I believe this topic has already addressed the fire breathing stone dragons and the mechanical Salazar, so yeah, it jumps the shark a few more times before the end.
Although you may want to fight through the pain just to get to Mercenaries. That sounds like more your cup of tea. Just you, an environment, a bunch of zombies, and minibosses every 5 minutes. Though you might think that the Double Donger is jumping the shark. Or Krauser, Hunk, and Wesker. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |
