| yea, i'm not really able to feel much sympathy or empathy for the CIA on this one. obviously i think saying "there's been a coup" is simply hyperbole for the sake of a speech, but the organization's involvement in places we aren't technically "in" is always interesting. |

well i have my doubts that there will be any kind of a circus surrounding the charges and it will be very possible that he'll just end up being sentenced and some people will be upset, but nothing will actually happen.
what is more ridiculous is the insistence of these governments to go after Assange, when it's fairly clear that whatever Wikileaks does isn't contingent upon him being at the head of it.
anyway, the cable that seems to implicate that a Texas company was helping to pimp kids to Afghan cops is one of the first things i've seen from this whole event that has made me go "oh, shit." once again, none of the info leaked is really all that "surprising," but if more of it contains information like the aformentioned cable, then i think this will end up being more important than the initial gossip that was trickling out in the beginning. |

| in general, i think we live in a very interesting/bizarre time. the fact that i am surrounded by people with advanced degrees who all make =< 30,000 a year is a consistent reminder of this. i'm not complaining in a naive way of "oh, what the hell, we did everything we were supposed to, WE WERE LIED TO," but it's just kind of an interesting dynamic that is yielding some unexpected results. that said, politics nationwide seem to be really going in equally bizarre directions and it seems like no one really has any idea where anything is going. #endofnihilistrant |

not really going to address most of what you've written, but this stuck out to me as being particularly...i don't know, naive? not trying to be a dick, per se, but people are generally pretty good at finding nearly anything to get violent about. perhaps a certain kind of ideology that drives some war would stop, but i'm pretty sure people are going to keep killing each other regardless of whether or not they believe in an afterlife. |
