| Did anyone think it was weird that the mainstream media never seemed to refer to the guy in Austin flying his plane into the federal building as a terrorism incident? I mean isn't that basically what it was, or can terrorists only be islamic now? :( |

| We're almost at a point where ridiculous terrorism fears have run as long as the the second wave of the Red Scare (at least according to Wikipedia). Maybe we'll come out of it soon :( |

I'm more or less okay with this. I get that there's going to be some pissy (but probably ideologically defensible) "I'll just take my ball and go home" during the (hopefully effective) increase in regulation, so it's not too surprising. I wonder how many people this will effectively exclude from a relevant economic existence. |
I'm actually pretty happy about this. The bank accounts were never 'free' in the first place, they were just being subsidized by people that didn't know that there was a way to opt out of the bank letting you overdraft (besides maintaining a register and monitoring your finances heavily). If banks have to stop giving out free checking, then maybe we can actually see and understand the cost of running one of these accounts and we can see some competition in the market again.
And yeah this is going to make credit unions and specialty banks a whole shitload more appealing than one of the megabanks, at least unless they change how they do business. |
