hahahahahahahaha

There must be some, though, right? Clay, stop-motion, cel, whatever. I suppose short cartoons is the best to hope for. I've never heard of feature-length movies or TV series, although there must be some over the years. Wasn't there a Dr Who episode done entirely in claymation?

Or do they live off a steady diet of American/Japanese/French animation?

What Dracko says.

Also, "The Animals of Farthing Wood" if you want a series along the lines of Watership Down and Plague Dogs.

Clangers and The Flumps.

Vernon Elliot Bassooning his way around space for little to no budget and a Yorkshire family of doddering incompetent pom poms. I don't think anything anyone else says is going to come anywhere damn near to the quality of these gems.

[edit]Holy shit I forgot about Trapdoor[/edit].
Bungling incompetent servants preparing food with little to no regard for hygiene or health and safety.

I'm pretty sure I remember some 80's-ish punk asthetic inspired animation from the UK.

Actually a French show. The C4 dub is the most famous version so you could consider it British in a way.

Since people are mentioning The Clangers and Bagpuss. Screenwipe did a quite wonderful tribute to the late Oliver Postgate that starts at 4:30 in this video.

Fuckity fucksticks I keep remembering even more awesome animations.

This time it is Willo the Wisp. Psycho TV griefs a bunch of ... things in the forest.

Also The Wind in the Willows, although it may be a bit old fashioned for most peoples sensitivities.

yeah animals of farthing wood was damned depressing - you just knew one of the smaller non-fox animals was gonna get it everytime they decided to cross the road.

Round the Bend(not round the twist)? Anyone remember that? It was full of parodies of things.. Weeman, killer teeth and other slightly disturbing things.

Best part of that show was calling the child audience "benders".

Even better was when they actually made it to the wildlife reserve. It got worse

The scene where the big bad Blue Fox (Scarface I think) savaged one of the Red Foxes 3 month old cubs to death on screen made me quit watching it and traumatised my 10 year old self. And BBC showed this at 3:30 every afternoon. Not even Eastenders was that violent and depressing at its peak.

Anyway, back to more old cartoons. There was a show on ITV called The Dreamstone. Looking back, the plot was fantasy furry nonsense. But for its time, the animation and soundtrack was absolutley lush. They gave Mike Batt (Who did the music for the Wombles), the London Symphony Orchestra to play with and the music was absolutley astounding. For a bloody kids cartoon, ITV sure spent a lot on it. Apparently, its still repeated in South America a fair bit.

I think that was Weeman. There was a crocodile too. But I forget if he was the host or some random puppet gag character.

RobotRocker - that Dreamstone thing looks really familiar, I remember that bananafish thing, but I'm sure I never used to watch it.

I think the Peperami ads count as British animation.. Or at least the puppet ones do. Random fact- I used to work for the guy who created and animated him!

Also we're forgetting the Welsh (voice talent at least!) dynamos that were Fireman Sam and Postman Pat!

I think I may have to download this now.

there's a great youtube thing, where they playback Fireman Sam in reverse, so that he's an arsonist... Search for "Arsonist Sam" its actually quite funny & works remarkably well. Slightly not British...but the Geordie dubs of Tintin are hilarious & a great time killer at work.
