Why am I the first to post this? Get past the part about "3D remake" shenanigans. I almost was pissed. Almost.
I know there's some love/hate for Castlevania these days, but I'm pleased, at least a little. _________________ Old man thread killer. |

Is this being worked on by IGA?
It seems like it'd be totally his baby. _________________

Man, Parish. I wonder if he got ManekiNeko to ghost write this.
Maybe they can remake Rondo to be actually good, with fluidity and such things as it is lacking. The enemy placement could certainly use some work to be engaging. |

Yes, he's always had pants. At least Ayami Kojima told me so.
The Belmonts in games before him though favored the freedom that lack of pants provide.
Except for Simon's Quest where a cursed, pale, and sickly Simon Belmont decided to wear black, shiny pants to keep the populace from thinking he was one of the walking dead. _________________

This looks like doujinsoft (more so if they keep adult breasts on Maria's child body, am I right?)
I lollered at puff the magic dragon-boss. Great character design, guys.
Still, provided the SOTN port isn't too shabby this will be a legitimately good purchase. Tim, will the new PSP be clamshell? |

Mother of Christ, what the hell is that!? As soon as I saw the 1up news story, I thought, "Great! A Dracula X package for PSP!" And then I saw the screenshot of NeoRondo™ and—well, my head asplode.
Now, I am not a hardcore, fuck-you-3D psycho-retro-purist, but this just looks freaking terrible.
EDIT: Ooooookay, thank fuck the original's included.

I do remember that PSM magazine way back in the summer sort of hinting at March 07 for a new one (in Japan) with all the fancy doodads, giant memory, camera, and streamlining.
I had forgotten about it, but Kojima coming through on this Dracula X Chronicles that he wanted to make in the Castlevania Chronicles interview.
Too bad it's the wrong system. I'm going to blame Konami/Sony for that. _________________

If they're porting Symphony from scratch and include the Saturn exclusive areas this news will be even better than it already was.
The 3D style looked ugly and crappy in the still pictures, but the grainy video made it seem like its the only possible future for this series. Imagine what they could do if Konami still took Castlevania seriously, even if it was only as seriously as it took, say, Gradius.
Its horrifying they find it necessary to release Symphony on top of everything else to the same fucking UMD. God lets all pray for a PS2 release.
Between this, Metal Gear, Megaman X and a bunch of other sequels to old games the PSP is worth buying. Lik-Sang sold a hard to do hardware hack that lets you plug a PSP into a TV and use a dual shock. Does anyone know of anywhere else that sells such a device and if it works? |

I'd sort of expect better screen refresh, volume upgrade, better buttons, maybe a different UMD loading mechanism. But new d-pad? Mmmmm... that sounds tasty. I will send $1.08 worth of good ol' American Coca-Cola to any dirty viral marketer that can ensure that happens.
As for PSP, I'm having a blast with mine lately. Between $19.99 Pirates, finally getting hooked on Monster Hunter, and Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts, I've been playing the hell out of it these days. And I'm still waiting for my ordered Salamander, Parodius, and Twinbee collections to show up.
I'm beyond froth for this Dracula X thing too. |

The new areas aren't really great, but play with/against Maria is very satisfying. |

counter-counter point.
trouble with the added content is that it's simply content. the "new" areas steal tile sets from other environments, are leagues below the aestheticism of the rest, and are the structural equivalent of the recent 2d games. the prison is a huge box with zig-zagging tiers. whoo!
the new sprites, like the ones made for, say, portrait of ruin, clash terribly with the beautiful originals made for sotn and the ones ripped from rob.
there are a few nifty items included, and a couple of the songs are nice, but it's really not enough to outweigh the blandness of the rest.
i'd rather play the version where there's not a bunch of slip-shod crap slapped on that smudges an otherwise glistening product. |

What can I say? The prison is short and included a needed shortcut through the Marble Gallery into the depths of the Underground Water Vein. The garden had a lot of cool new enemies, something the newer games don't often have. You could also use Eric's spear from Bloodlines as a weapon. I don't think either area stole tile sets, if they did I haven't noticed it in eight years. Maria was also a boss and she was cooler than Richter, too.
Richter's second costume, which resembled his official artwork, was a nice touch in that it helped make it seem like Symphony was taking place five years after Rondo (he appeared in his old clothing in the intro). Another nice detail was that Maria and Richter rode in on horse back and had different music for the first area.
There was a sound and voice test too. I mean, shit man, you can say the Saturn version was worse due to its other flaws but I can't believe anyone saying the new stuff detracted from the game somehow. A port that combined the strengths of both versions would be great at the very least. |

Apparently there would be an item that lets me move faster, as well as an additional character to play as. That sounds pretty sweet to me. That there are extra, possibly bland, areas that I don't have to go to seems irrelevant to me. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |
