| watched Blue Velvet today, and on the "enhanced" dvd's special features menu there's a clip of siskel and ebert's take on the film, in which ebert makes an ass out of himself. good times. |

maybe i should rewatch cabin fever :dry heave:, though i didn't get any vibes that even closely resembled Evil Dead? mostly just "shitty movie" vibes :''^\/
watched Dune tonight, in anticipation of receiving Eraserhead from Focus' Mega Sale. |

no i was not as a matter of fact antitype >:(
it struck me as being on par with scream. and yeah, frat dudes/biches and big bootie ho's hump wid iiiit is funny for, what, 2 minutes? (i like satire, just not the kind that panders to people with no taste)
what i'm saying is it's juvenile shit, and perhaps i just wasn't in the mood for it at the time. i don't know, i love funny shit, though after paying like six bucks and being confronted with what amounted to a complete waste of two hours of my short life, i wasn't giggle-snorting like the fuckers that seemed to fill the entire theatre. (i could quite possibly be totally off-base with this. just how i felt at the time i saw these films (scream/cabin fever))
perhaps i will give it another shot in the comfort of my own home, seeing as the guru of media (you have heretofore been deemed, antitype-san :) thinks this heap is somehow worthwhile.

this is about Deathproof, spoilers --
Tarantino should've had Stuntman Mike being the bad guy he tried to set him up to be in the film by killing the two guys in the bar at the beginning (the two younger guys that were keeping the girls company, while making fun of the Stuntman)...i mean, the guys were douches, it was practically written in -- Russel should've viciously killed them with a smile. (what i'm getting at, is i think focusing a bit more on the Stuntman would've been more interesting. i can also see the flipside to this, in that that would make him less pathetic.)
also, about the ending; a huge semi running over the three girls and Stuntman Mike would've been cool (along with a huuuuge, satisfying explosion)...the kicker: Mike gets up and starts walks away. Deathproof.
the movie could've been more interesting overall, much less bullshit with the girls...though i understand we're supposed to be getting to know them to create sympathy in the final scene...it still felt artificial to me, which is fine, because it's a "fun" flick, why not just cut out the bullshit. fill the bullshit space with the much more interesting (and fun) character of the Stuntman being the bad guy. |

| i still like the idea of the semi-truck ending. and the conversations/characters were vapid high-school bullshit. |

yesterday was a really relaxed kind of day for me. i got to watch a bunch of vhs tapes i picked up from video paradise (soon to be dvd paradise!) for two bucks apiece. i watched, from best to worst,
1. Lady Terminator (she mates, then she terminates!)
amazing, words don't really do justice to this piece of glorious trash.
2. Drunken Angel
Mifune and Kurosawa's first time in bed together (and Mifune's debut). i enjoyed it.
3. Dagon
Resident Evil 4? fuck yes. Lovecraft would be kind of proud.
4. Orca (the killer whale!)
...
5. Vampire's Kiss
found this one without the original label, mistitled "kiss of the vampire." nicholas cage plays the lead in this one. it's a weird one, and i didn't finish it. according to imdb's user ratings/comments it is a "cult classic" i was hoping for something other than a poorly acted 'bad-in-a-bad-way' late 80's A-movie. luckily i didn't watch it last.
Oh and also The Howling
the sound was fucked up. though in place of the normal film's sound was a droney hum, which actually bumps it up a bit on the list. on par with Orca, or just below it at 4.5. i fell asleep at some point. not sure if it was due to the hum or the film itself. either way, i woke up satisfied. |
