To my knowledge, it just isn't possible... Gens (and its xbox port), Kega and the like can't do it.

DGen does SCD emulation? I thought it hadn't been updated in many years and didn't even do standard MegaDrive stuff that well? |

Eh, I was using NeoGenesis on the xbox and that can save state (including SegaCD games). |

| It can kinda-sorta save state SCD, but If you exit the rom or emulator and try and load the state again at a later date, it'll just crash. |

Short question:
There was this interview/writeup how some things in Shadow of the Colossus were done in a wire-frame-way, including the Colossi ... does anyone remember where that was/link would be nice? I can't remember where I stumbled across that thing .... _________________

my bad, I meant Gens...
i just loaded up my gens (v2.11) with snatcher as the game...
quick save/quick load seems to be functional, but yeah...real save state functionality sucks. |

Two quick questions:
1. Are the original Monster Hunter (PS2) servers still online in the US? I remeber hearing an announcement, but can't remeber what it was about.
2. Is the new Monster Hunter psp game in Japan an online title in and of itself, or is it like the other one where you can just import your character or whatever but only take it online on the console? _________________

Sega CD savestates in Gens+ work after you've exited the emulator. So use Gens+! |

Is there any sort of accepted... XBL etiquette... in terms of what you call people in voice chat?
Say perhaps I am playing against ShaperMc, whose gamertag is ShaperTGQ. Should I just say "sup Shaper" if I initiate a private voice chat, or go through some introductions and be like "my name is mike (not as obvious on xbl since my gamertag is ilopan, there), and yours?" |

The correct etiquette for XBL voice chat is just to call everyone niggerfaggot. _________________

From a quick survey of some review sites, it's a direct port with
- no customization of the graphics
- loss of graphics "impact" (although personally I can't really discern a difference from the screenshots; I'd say it's on par with the PS2 version)
- no mouse control; either keyboard or gamepad only (and they are stressing USE the gamepad for best effect)
- all the goodies from the PS2 version
Worth getting if you have not played it on a console and a gamepad. |

it's.. okay. it actually runs natively in 1280x800, which is a concession they didn't need to make, especially given that your other options are basically "run it in an 800x600 window even though a third of that thing between the letterboxing on the top and bottom isn't going to be doing shit."
keyboard controls really aren't bad for RE4. i play it one handed, when i actually feel like playing it. granted this doesn't happen very often because the PC port has no lighting. kind of makes a difference; in particular, horizons come out as brownish parallax gobbledegook nonsense unless you turn your contrast up very high, which compensates a bit. i guess they are planning on patching it and adding lighting in time for the proper US release? maybe? if you haven't played it before, wait until then, at least. |

Can you use Guitar Hero controller with Guitar Freaks?
Alternatively which is the best PS2 Guitar Freaks/Drummania?
Alternative Alternatively, what rhythm game would you recommend for a guy playing on a 13 inch screen? |

Yes, you can use the Guitar Hero controller. You can remap the buttons, but since the GH controller's left button is constantly held down, selecting songs will be a pain. Also, pick isn't completely suited for the hyperpicking parts, but it works ok.
I would say to go for the latest, Masterpiece Gold. It's actually a compliation of the better songs out of the series since Konami neglected the console version for a while. _________________

Masterpiece Gold, probably. If you want to use a guitar hero controller, you'll want to remap the controls as follows:
| Quote: |
O Red
Triangle Green
X Blue
D-Pad Up Picking
D-Pad Down Picking
L2 Wailing |
As EU mentioned, the GH controller holds down left at all times, but it's really not that big a deal unless your PS2 is far away from your TV or something. Just keep a dualshock and your GH controller out, and navigate menus with the dualshock. When you select a song, you have a good 9 or 10 seconds while it loads, which should be plenty of time to unplug the dualshock and plug in the GH controller. If your setup prevents you from doing this, though, you may be out of luck. I certainly wouldn't pay money for a guitar freaks controller, that's for sure.

Anything? It's the perfect genre to play on a small TV, from my experience. |

Someone is offering a DOA4 arcade stick for 85 bucks.
Is it worth it for that price? Or should I just wait for inevitable Hori ones when VF5 comes out here? _________________

I'd say no, as you're nearing HRAP pricing there. Granted, there is no other decent arcade stick out for the 360 at the moment, but it isn't like the system is overflowing with fighting games either. |

How do you unlock the Papillon suit in the US version of PN03? I'm seeing several different methods listed online. It's clear that some of the info is for the Japanese version instead but I don't know who to trust.
Is it: by getting professional rank in all trial modes?(and do you need professional on all the regular missions as well?)
by beating the game on hard?
by beating it twice on one save file? |

| my DS's touchscreen is slighty out of sync (ie, it registers touches slightly to the left of where i'm actually touching.), and when i try to re-calibrate it, it just keeps telling me to touch the center of those squares, and doesn't actually say "touch screen re-calibrated!" like it's supposed to. |

Well, it has a really terrible bass pedal and the pads are too close together, so I would say no. Is there a reason you don't just play in the arcade? I mean, you're in Japan right now, so it seems like the perfect opportunity to do so. |

The closest thing I've been able to find is something called "Super Hucard" (easily googled), although it only supports a certain 75 pre-hacked games and they don't all run as well as they should. It's apparently your only option though, unfortunately. There seems to be too many memory constraints to be able to do it with whichever game you like. _________________

I've been told that, whichever is the hardest, is the one for the US version. They apparently screwed up in that regard, with the localization. |

thanks dais. i don't really care that it can't run every game as long as it runs those few super-rare, super-expensive games i'm interested in. i'll try to figure out how to burn it sometime soon. _________________

There's also a flash card for the PCE that you could use; Tototek has one with 32 MegaBits if memory, although it has exposed circuit boards that will remain uncovered unless you wrap it with tape or something.
My question: Are PS3s region-free, and if I buy a US one, could I play a Japanese PS2 game on it? |

PS3's are (currently) region-free with regards to PS3 games, and dependant on the region of game you've got, you'll connect to that region's server (Jap copy = Jap server). The only exception here is Resistance, which connects to the server of the machine's region, not game (Jap machine with US game = Jap server).
It is not region-free otherwise, though. |
