Shatter is quite like Arkanoid / Breakout, but throws enough new stuff into the mix and packages it into a great blend of visuals and sounds that more than warrants its existence.
Edit: God, that sounded way too much like a back of the box quote than I intended. |

Daisuke Ishiwatari, creator of Guilty Gear, was born in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Is there any further information on this? Seems like a really unlikely combination of heritage and birthplace. |

you could go back and edit them into other questions! But nobody will see them because they will be buried. So make them ridiculous questions! |

| Toll, the problem would be that I couldn't do US to Japanese downloads. I'm getting the US version as a Christmas gift for a friend, and wouldn't us to miss out on multiplayer. |

does anyone:
1. Know how the Miser Ring works in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia?
2. Know where I can find a list of the bonus point stats for enemies in Parasite Eve? Apparently each enemy has a unique amount of BP they give for being defeated, but it's reduced based on another stat - I read that it's "X unique BP for killing enemy - (Y unique BP modifier x Z times you were hit in battle)". Yet another of the game's weird little systems. |

| no idea what the formula for figuring out your total per day is, but this site has the base bp values for enemies. under each day (1日目, 2日目 etc) you'll find tables for whatever you fight that chapter. with the monster names in english, no less. |

I always forget about Japanese sites, since they have no pretty pictures to catch my attention. They sometimes have technical info like that which is hard/impossible to find elsewhere. |

Pretty sure it works the exact way the miser ring's always worked i.e. you get stat bonuses based on how much gold you currently have, and you need so much gold for it to be better than any other item in the slot that it's never worth equipping. _________________

The nature of the strange gameplay mechanics of Parasite Eve in what is essentially such a linear, simplistic experience kind of fascinates me. I hinted at it in the bad game design thread, but the game seemed to be very transparent and predictable until I modded one of my weapons and got results that skewed more wildly towards "game logic" than I expected at the time. I ended up looking at a few FAQs ad was kind of astounded at the weird invisible mechanics going on in such a shallow game. Before I could write off Parasite Eve as being exactly what it billed itself as ("the cinematic RPG", although it could have learned some more from FF7), but learning there are these things going on in the background makes me feel that I need to have a much more thorough understanding of the game to totally appreciate it.
also I want to know how to get the most BP per level in order to make my numbers go up as high as possible - not just because I like numbers going up, but because I'm getting nearer to the game's weird fake level cap, where it takes an absurd amount of EXP to go from level 35 to 38 but a comparatively trivial (and universal) amount of EXP for every level after that. I'd like to maximize my BP payout in my first playthrough, since I doubt I'll break through that cap until I hit the bonus dungeon in the second playthrough (EX Round, which is kind of sort of like New Game+)
argh, I forgot about previous miser rings in Castlevania. Probably also why the mistranslation of the Gold Ring left me baffled until I looked it up. |

well, i'll tell you the game breaks long before your equipment stats cap out. i gave up when i had a shotgun with 800 attack and even the ex round bonus dungeon was a joke long before that point. honestly, i'd say any stat over 500 is overkill; the optional boss might be rough but by that time you should have enough medicine 4 to fill your entire inventory.
advice: dump some points into a nightstick every now and then. after a few playthroughs you'll have one that can bludgeon the museum boss to death and that's way more fun than a 999 pistol with cyanide, triple command, etc.
edit, just for clarity - certainly not trying to tell someone else how up their numbers should go, just saying i came at parasite eve with a yeeaah gonna break this game mindset and later regretted it |

I'm not setting out to break the game, just to fulfill my fetishes and make up for any mistakes I might have made earlier on (I dumped a bunch of BP into expanding my item capacity because I'm a pack rat and like to carry around as many "options" as possible, even if I never use them). I probably would have been better off not reading so much about the mechanics, but I honestly was startled and intrigued by them (and the little secrets like getting a Super Tool by killing 95 of those bouncing brains the crawling monster shoots out in the Hospital) and kept reading because of that. I'll keep in mind that I don't really need to go out of my way to enjoy the experience, thanks.
(and the nightstick is definitely my favorite weapon. I'm rather amazed how useful it is in a game that emphasizes gun use - not only does it steal, but it's so damn fast and allows you to really make the parasite energy "spells" a part of your battle strategy) |

I looked at all of SB's Gamecube recommendation threads, but there are still a bunch of games I'm wondering about: Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Kirby Air Ride, Battalion Wars, James Bond 007 From Russia with Love, Mega Man Network Transmission, Rayman Arena, Frogger: Ancient Shadow, Summoner: A Goddess Reborn, Amazing Island, Evolution Worlds, Disney's Hide & Sneak, Teen Titans, Cel Damage, Mystic Heroes, Capcom Vs. SNK EO, Go Go Hypergrind, One Piece Grand Adventure, Super Bubble Pop, Carmen Sandiego, Virtua Quest, Darkened Skye, Ribbit King, Goblin Commander, One Piece: Grand Battle, Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis, Trigger Man, D&D Heroes, He-Man: Defender of the Grayskull, Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension, Rave Master and Whirl Tour.
Please tell me if any of this is either really good or really bad, or interesting enough to bother with and also, let me know if there's a superior version on another console. |

Quick list of what I've played:
Good: Kirby Air Ride (only uses one button!), Mega Man Network Transmission
Kind of okay: Pokemon XD, Battallion Wars, CvS EO (PS2/Xbox versions are superior), Virtua Quest, One Piece Grand Battle, Cel Damage
Really bad: Teen Titans, Aquaman (one of the lowest rated games of all time; picture Superman 64 in an endless dark void with unbearably bad flight physics) |

Aw man...I LOVED the idea of an Aquaman game. Oh well.
Why are there so many fucking Dynasty Warriors games on the 360? Why do people buy these over and over? Have you met someone who was into these? What were they like? |

there are even more on the PS2.
A friend of mine is a huge fan of the musou games. He has said that the one thing he enjoys most in games, all games, are cute girls, and musou games have the cutest. Considering this holds true for every game he has ever claimed to like (excluding Oblivion, but he only plays that to be an asshole with the physics engine) I'm going to assume he was being honest.
Also I think he really enjoys killing chinamen.
Evolution Worlds is apparently a port of Evolution 2 with a heavily edited version of Evolution 1 taped onto it as a prologue. Considering how neither of those were good games I highly doubt Worlds is.
A guy I know played that Carmen Sandiego game. He owns a GCN and Xbox, but no PS2. That's the kind of trash he'd have to play and pretend it had redeeming value because of that decision. _________________

I know there could be a whole host of reasons why this is not working - but I am trying to play the Game Maker games "La La Land" and I can not get them to open. I am using Vista (which is probably the problem anyways).
But are these games supposed to run through Game Maker themselves? I download version 8 and that runs fine for me, so I am meeting that software requirements.
I want to play these weird games! _________________

I think this might be it. I would try to load it and it would do nothing, and I tried a squeal or two - and the same thing. A bit later my computer was struggling and I opened the task manager and sure enough they were in the processes list trying but I figured it was an error.
I'll try and load it up and just sit back for a while. Thanks! _________________

If they were made in GM6 they won't render in vista or work on 64bit machines. There's a converter program out there that makes them GM7 compatible. That fixes 32bit vista problems. _________________

Ya'll I got a PSP-3000 for Christmas and I'm trying to decide what size memory stick to buy for it - can anyone give me an estimate of the average size of PSN games and downloadable retail games? Or is there a site out there that lists some file sizes?
edit: Also, has anyone heard anything about people having problems with non-Sony memory sticks? It looks like Sandisk has them beat in the price category, hands down. |

PSP games can very wildly in size. I just checked advanscene.com, my current favorite (mainly due to easy to remember name) release listing for DS/PSP dumps and had a half-sigh over Darius Burst weighing in at 185mb. Meanwhile, R-Type Tactics II is listed at 1.58gb. Both dual download/phyysical titles.
(Metal Slug XX is 440mb...I'm curious how that happened, since it's basically a remixed version of Metal Slug 7. Maybe the music is all high-quality streaming double looped instead of what was in the DS game. Or maybe they, ugh, added new music.....or maybe Cindy is voiced now. Yeah, that's probably it. Moe~)
the only way I know of to anticipate the size of games is to check release listings like that.
By PSN games, I assume you mean PSP Minis? Those are all automatically under 100mb, unless something changed recently. I also haven't heard any positive impressions about any of them, although I admittedly haven't been looking for impressions at all. |

bear in mind that .cso format makes games a lot smaller.
i have a 4Gb card, and i have 7 psp games, plus a few emulators and other programs, plus a bunch of music on there.
issues with non-sony memory cards seem to mainly be loading times. it'll still be faster than loading from a umd, though.
the problem with new firmwares though, is hving to choose between psp games and playstation games. the older custom firmwares play most playstation eboots fine, but won't play any psp games from 2009 onwards. newer cfws will play most psp games(though new big name titles have to be cracked, which seems to take a lot longer than it does with ds games), but the playstation emulator is fucked. _________________
