is there a pc-engine emulator for the pc-engine super cd? by which i mean, is there any software that will let me burn rom images of hucard titles onto cds to run on my super cd-rom? _________________

| The closest thing I've been able to find is something called "Super Hucard" (easily googled), although it only supports a certain 75 pre-hacked games and they don't all run as well as they should. It's apparently your only option though, unfortunately. There seems to be too many memory constraints to be able to do it with whichever game you like. |
thanks dais. i don't really care that it can't run every game as long as it runs those few super-rare, super-expensive games i'm interested in. i'll try to figure out how to burn it sometime soon. _________________

is the original outrun in outrun 2006 / coast 2 coast?
on that note, let's just image, hypothetically, that there's a game director from sega. let's imagine his name is yu suzuki. let's further pretend that in 2000, a book about the director was released that happened to come with a disc of dreamcast ports of some of his most notable titles. suppose this book, and its disc, became incredibly rare and very expensive when they could be found at all. but suppose that one could burn one's own copy of this disc to play in one's dreamcast, providing one had an iso of said disc!
suppose dessgeega asked if anyone could possibly hook her up with that iso.
edit: this is all hypothetical. _________________

it's all hypothetical, but yeah: yu suzuki gameworks.
so here's another question: how is megaman: wily wars / rockman mega world? i havn't spent nearly as much time with the first three megaman games as i would like, but for that same reason i wouldn't be able to tell if the genny versions are off in any way. _________________

the fact that dosbox confuses and baffles me.
this is as good an opportunity as any to sit down and try and figure it out, though. _________________

thanks, dais, that tutorial you linked was totally helpful. no longer am i living a jill-free life.
speaking of great ports of outrun, here's a (completely hypothetical) question: suppose i am planning on in the near future possessing a copy of a very rare dreamcast disc. how might i dump such a thing to my computer? _________________

one last question: where can i find z-code versions of infocom games? mind you, i say this as someone who owns the masterpieces of infocom cd, but the versions of the games on that cd aren't in a format that i can play in gargoyle, and that's unacceptable to me right now. _________________

this issue has been resolved thanks to a helpful forum member!
i could play the .dat files in frotz, but then i wouldn't be playing them in gargoyle. and there is a world of difference. _________________

i like digging strike. the stages combine the gameplay of the original dig dug and that of dig dug II, making the game a real sequel. there's also just a lot more stuff in the game, including an homage to xevious. it's also pretty cute, since taizo hori is an old man now whose glory days are past, living in the shadow of his son's fame. i thought it was a nifty way of bringing namco continuity (namcontinuity) full circle. _________________

is anyone familiar with an old dos shareware game called "evolve!"? it's a light a-life simulation where you program lifeforms by filling out a grid of responses to various stimuli (like, "what do i do if there are enough enemies nearby to hunt me?"). you can have two species compete simultaneously; they can either eat plants or hunt one another for nutrition. i found it on one of those old shareware cds and used to play it all the time, but the last time i tried to install it on a windows computer it wouldn't run. i think i could get it to run in dosbox, but it's impossible to find. apparently games journalists are in love with the word "evolve".
also glitch i'm really impressed that you reached the pooka in xevious 3d/g. that game is crazy difficult. _________________

taizo hori's first appearance in a mr. driller game is in mr. driller g, which was released in 2001. he's also been in mr. driller a, drill land, and drill spirits. incidentally, toby masuyo - protagonist of baraduke - is susumu's mother and taizo's ex-wife. _________________

ROMS PLZ
okay, i've been trying to run some of u1's super mario bros. hacks. something seems to be wrong with the roms i've been using, as the games that are created when i apply the patches don't respond to my joypad and have slightly scrambled title screens. should i add a header? remove one? do i need a different version of the rom? help me out, thread, you've come through for me so many times before! _________________

i like the ali-baba roguelike a lot because it is an implementation of stealth, and i have wanted a stealth-based roguelike for a long time. it was done in a week for a competition, and i would love to see it developed into a full game. _________________

| I remember reading in some blog or forum thread about a "stealth" roguelike game based on (I believe) the story of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves. Someone--I want to say dessgeega, but I could be mistaken--described the way the player had to hide just outside the range of the guards' torches, and then had to sneak in and remove treasures. Can somebody point me to the thread or blog this was mentioned in, or toward the game itself? |
oh wow, i missed this. i thought pijaibros was just asking people to talk about the ali-baba roguelike. which is indeed the one i was describing.
re: super mario bros. rom, someone's custom title has been reaffirmed. mario gear solid is pretty neat, though i can't figure out how to reach the axe, and diving frog is pretty incredible. _________________

are there any awesome third-party dreamcast controllers?
i know there's one that looks like a saturn pad, and though i'd replace all my gamepads with saturn pads if i could, i'm buying a new dreamcast pad because none of mine have working control sticks. so i need one with a working control stick. tell me hori whipped something up for the dreamcast. _________________

the platform is windows xp, the joypad is a ps2 saturn pad plugged into a super joybox, and the game is pretty much every doujin game without remappable controls ever. _________________

as a first-person shooter that will play on a gameboy micro, gba doom is amazing. as a port of doom, it's too bright and brown and has ugly green blood and no cyberdemon. _________________

Here, have an emulator. You'll need ROM images, naturally, and you might or might not need to get the GS/OS set up depending on the game (if you boot the GS without any disks attached, or with an old Apple II disk in the drive it happily boots up and behaves like an Apple IIe; the GS/OS is basically a miniature version of MacOS - for all I know, games might require it to *not* be present in order to harness the full power of the machine in the same way that DOS games wanted you to exit Windows to play them). |
thanks screwtape! _________________
