| Are the PS2/GC/Xbox James Bond games any good? |
I played Agent Under Fire the other day on a guy's Gamecube.
If it is exemplary of any of the others, probably not.
The sort of 3rd-person one was supposed to be alright, though. |
Nightfire was absolutely wonderful multiplayer, basically a Goldeneye update that everybody missed I guess. Everything or Nothing was really hard, but had good co-op multiplayer, if the players were skilled. |

So what do I do if I run out of memory on my Wii? Cause another 4 or 5 VC games and that'll be it, apparently. _________________

So is there a master list someplace of (revised) PS3 and 360 backwards compatibility issues? _________________

Hey, there isn't some sleep mode on my PS3 that I'm missing, is there? So I can actually do background downloading and charge my controller and stuff without the fans going full bore and all?

Why do all the plasma reviews I see end up with something like "This is the greatest TV ever! Oh yeah and it doesn't really display the color green right." _________________

Have you got a 2nd gen one? The 20 & 60 GBs with the PS2 hardware are noisy fuckers. _________________

I have my PS2 running on a 2405 (also on component); it's great but I recall it taking weirdness to set the PS2 up for widescreen. I think I had to get into the settings while playing a DVD to change things; there was no option for it while playing games. And then you still have to fiddle with aspect ratio in some games individually. _________________

Has anybody gotten Far Cry working on 64bit Vista? How?
Alternatively, does Steam issue refunds for failing to inform me this wouldn't work? _________________

Does Steam say that its supported in Vista 64? (It likely doesn't)
There's your notification.
and pre-emptively: complaints about it not flashing this in your face are null. People have been looking at the sides, backs, and bottoms of PC game boxes to see that exact information----for years. |
Yeah, you're right- Steam reqs listed XP/2K only- I'm the chump here. I got it running though, through a combo of .net3.5 SP1, an AMD64bit patch and admin rights (aka not starting it through Steam).
Hasn't aged as well as I'd hoped, but binocs+rocks+headshots in the jungle is still fun. I'll probably stop once I get to the monsters. Or once I get into Crysis in a couple days. _________________

Also: is gametap worth the $60 a year? |
Last time I checked, they didn't support 64bit OSes. Has that changed?
oh, here.
| Quote: |
Currently GameTap does not support any 64-bit version of Windows for Windows Games. 32-bit versions of both XP and Vista are supported.
Q: I just got a new computer and I don't know what version I have. How do I find out?
A: Microsoft has an article detailing how to check to find out. Look here.
Q: Why doesn't GameTap fully support 64-bit yet?
A: The virtual device driver that GameTap uses for certain platforms is provided by a third party vendor, and that driver is not 64-bit compatible yet.
Q: What parts of GameTap should run on 64-bit operating systems?
A: Platforms that currently do not work on 64-bit operating systems on GameTap:
* Windows
* "8-bit" (these are really Windows-native)
Platforms that should work on 64-bit operating systems on GameTap:
* The GameTap client itself
* Saturn
* Dreamcast
* 32-X
* Arcade
* Atari 2600
* Commodore 64
* DOS
* Game Gear
* Genesis
* Intellivision
* Master System
* Neo Geo
* SG-1000
* Anything purchased from the GameTap retail store
Examples:
Sonic the Hedgehog and Metal Slug should work on 64-bit, since they are Genesis and Neo Geo games, respectively.
Castlevania and Fallout should not work on 64-bit, since they are both "8-bit" and Windows games, respectively.
Q: But what if I run GameTap in compatibility mode, will that make the unsupported games work on a 64-bit platform?
A: Unfortunately not.
Q: Is there a timeline on when GameTap will be fully supporting 64-bit?
A: Not at this time. This article will be updated when there's more information to give you on that.

Is there a way to make Steam open browser windows (for screenshots or whatever) in Firefox instead of IE? _________________

| The real problem with controlling Sin & Punishment is that it was meant to be played with an N64 controller. In many cases, the GameCube controller makes for a nice replacement, but it just doesn’t cut it here. You have two options to move your character: the tiny and out-of-place D-pad or the mushy shoulder buttons. Yeah. No thanks. The Classic Controller, then, is the preferred way to play, but it still doesn’t feel right. There are only three control schemes to choose from, and none of them translate perfectly to the Classic Controller. This is the kind of game that begs Nintendo to add a button configuration menu to the Virtual Console. For crying out loud, just do it, already. |

I don't like the stress of constantly plugging in headphones and unplugging them since I've had headphone jacks on a couple computers break on me. Is there a way in vista I can decide whether to output to the speakers or the headphones without having to unplug my phones?
Also is there any way to have some programs always output to the headphones, so I can do my skyping on the headset while I play emulated GBA games out of the speakers? |
I've got a little $5 switch that can toggle between headphones and speakers, and enable/disable the mic.
On a software basis, I think it depends on your motherboard or soundcard and whatever comes with it. _________________

Dumb serious, and seriously dumb question: what are some good/bad/interesting Game Overs from the currant/last year games to track down online?
(I always ask this, sometimes I base purchases on it. Sometimes how the game directors/producers love or disdain for the audience shines through on how they treat the big learning experience of a game. Do they plop you on flat screen, do they rush you through it to get you back to play, do they sidestep it entirely, do they laugh it off, do they flip you off and poorly code an auto-reboot to the developer/publisher splash screens, do they crash?)
(Plus I love funny and melodramatic ones.) |
Well, the death-and-meta-gaming thing (see Shiren, Dragon Quarter) is a major part of Demon's Souls.
The last Prince Of Persia wouldn't really let you die, or in place of death it had little magical-girl-saves-you animations, coupled with checkpoints every twenty feet.
I personally enjoyed Mirror's Edge's tendency toward frequent first person free fall and a crunchy splat on the pavement. _________________

The PoP one though. =( Half the fun was the prince getting pissed that it was going all wrong. |
Yeah, the new one is pretty much nonsense. I saw a review or two getting all excited about "no death in a videogame!" but it really doesn't have any deeper meaning or anything. _________________
