How do I use a Gamecube controller to play VC games? I can't find out anywhere.

Let me elaborate. I just got Super Mario World, and I can play 1 player w/ my Classic Controller.

Should I plug the Gamecube controller in port 2 if I wanna play 2 player?

I'm really cofused right now.

Edit: Can I control 1 player with both controlers at the same time?
