|
|
One of my associates (friend-of-a-friend, I don't really want to call him a friend just yet) claims that there are incompatibilities between UK and other PAL consoles, citing his experiences with a UK copy of Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for the Wii not running on his NL console. A supposed later locally bought copy did work.
Now he's suggesting this is the gist for all Wii and Xbox 360 titles! Is he full of it or am I losing my marbles? Because last time I checked PAL = PAL and UK was definitely PAL region. :? |

| Can't there be a universal console that can play all games from Mega Drive / SNES over PSX to PS3 / XBOX 360? Meh. |
NES/Mega Drive/SNES/etc. -> Xbox
PSX/PS2 -> PS2
PS3 -> PS3
Xbox 360 -> Xbox 360
That's at least how I'd do it currently. Perhaps someone has a better suggestion?

Is your copy fully patched up? Otherwise you could try one of the launchers for it. |

Is the PC version of Gears of War any good? By which I mean, is it a functional port and are the added levels worth the price of entry?
I know Epic acquired a majority share in People Can Fly on the strength of it, but does that mean anything? |
The user experience with the PC version didn't sit well with me. The installation went fine, but finding the correct patch up to the latest version was harder than I thought it would be. I had expected it to be available at the Gears of War website or at the very least Epic's own site, but I couldn't find it at either one. Googling led me to various patches, each different in size. So I'm hoping that eventually I installed the correct one.
This was followed by some troubles getting a Windows Live! account set up. And the Live! servers weren't helpful either, Gears failing to establish a connection a multitude of times. So that meant no online play or SINGLE PLAYER SAVING for me. After all this I gave up because whatever progress I had in-game couldn't be saved anyway.
In short I'm pretty sure it's a great port and a similarly great game play experience, but check first if possible whether you have a proper connection to the Live! servers. If this is too much hassle, just stick with the original console versions. |

| It does have a bunch of GTA influenced bullshit though (roam through the city to the mission markers, roam through the city looking for challenge icons, etc). |
The challenges are the worst part of the game. That being said, if you like Spider-Man games do pick it up. To me it's not as good as Spider-Man 2: the game, but I've enjoyed it quite a lot. |

So what's the SB collective thinking about quirky "I can't believe they're releasing that in the states" games?
Specifically the upcoming PS3 game Cross Edge? |
U.S. residents should consider themselves lucky, getting a game starring everyone's favorite flat chested demons Lilith and Etna together. |

Depends if you either want to have a good time playing online or like pretty pictures more, in that order. _________________

| Is this because nobody plays UT3 or does it just suck? |
UT3 easily sucks the life out of your system, but it ain't a bad game by any means. In fact the last patches brought some new life to it. But in the end the amount of people playing the game at any time is far below UT2k4.
I've seen plenty of complaints that people didn't find anyone online on UT3 at all, though I have yet to personally see that happen.
UT2k4 is just more lively. In fact I could go play a few rounds right now on Ubuntu. UT3 is still lacking a (promised) Linux port.
