red eye knights are harder than the giant dudes ok. especially the spear ones. although I guess the giant dudes have quite a bit more health, which kinda sucks when you're using a meat cleaver and your standard combo drains your whole stamina bar and then the dude is still alive.

I may have UGGGHHHH-ed at 5-2 but I think it's pretty awesome. if some of the open areas in Dark Souls are like that like you feel like you can get lost and visibility is low and god knows what kind of meat cleaver wielding bitch is rolling around out there--yeah. I want some of that.

I found something to complain about: I can't fucking tell the difference between pure white world tendency and not quite pure white world tendency. a real pain in the ass.

next in my endless series of questions: do you still get the magic defense bonus of items like the rune shield/sword if they aren't actively equipped? like, can I two hand the meat cleaver with the rune shield in my left hand spot and still get the bonus, even if I'm not using it? or can I use the purple flame shield, but have the rune shield in my other left hand slot? it seems some things work this way (adjudicator's shield) while others do not, so I'm unsure. I'm assuming it doesn't work, because I figure I'd have heard about it if it did.

so just to clarify here:

the only way to get pure white world tendency is to kill all the bosses in a given world without dying in body form (with the exception of world 1 because loldragons)? or I guess you could sit around and hope to be invaded a bunch?

and the only way to get pure black tendency is to die repeatedly in body form? and then either farm enough stone of ephemeral eyes to rez or play the game for hours farming people as a black phantom (and not turn your game off ever, because that resets world tendency to the server mean?)

yeah, but what are the chances my level 80 guy is going to be able to find someone within his level range that hasn't killed any given boss? especially almost two years after the game's release?

definitely not going for 100%. already things I can't do in this game, and I certainly don't care about trophies or any of that. the only reason I want to mess with the tendencies is to see additional content, get colorless souls, and (in the case of black) make the game harder.

probably just going to pass on the pure white stuff (killed miralda and satsuki and got makoto at least) and just do black. also I can't get the foe ring this game :( :(

god I am so sick of old king fuckhead. the five minutes of prep for every 15 second attempt doesn't sound too bad on paper but after you do it twenty fucking times it's maddening. finally ragequit after I died on the red knight before him. I had stopped bothering with second chance given that my "second chance" on Doran is with 50 hp meat cleaver hits. waste of time and spice.

there is ONE thing that makes him hard with my set up. if the first swing of the meat cleaver isn't PERFECTLY positioned, he is going to roll dodge after the second hit. and if he does that he's probably going to kill you during the recovery. and it's almost impossible to tell if that initial hit was perfect. I suppose I could try to R2 the whole fight, but that's a lot of R2 and not a lot of time with cursed weapon up (and of course if your R2 isn't perfect he's going to roll and kill you)

I could come back later and try to stunlock him with hiltless or something fuck I don't know

how's the stamina regen on the eternal warrior ring? enough to make heavier armor better than ancient king if you can roll with it and don't mind using a ring spot? probably won't be the case for me (I'd need great strength to use heavier armor anyway--that's two rings in a game where I'm in soul form most of the time), but something to keep in mind.

pure black can be pretty scary. the extra black phantoms hit like trucks and that damn hidden black skeleton in 4-2 is fucking brutal in pure black. also I lost 45k souls in 4-1 to manta ray fucking lock downs. they're a bit more aggressive in pure black, or else there are just a lot more of them. not sure which.

5-2 pure black is hard. it made me fear for me life all the time again :)

so when I said the giant depraved ones were not the hardest enemies in the game, I lied. I especially lied where pure black is concerned. and I especially especially lied where black phantom versions are concerned. in SAVE ME FROM POISON gear one of those guys can kill me dead in one hit. add in the BETTER NOT MOVE TOO MUCH OR YOU CAN'T ROLL OR RUN environments and the tricky pull angles and it's straight murder if you fuck up. which is awesome. I wish there was a way to just set the difficulty to pure black mode. like not even for the extra content--they can still hide that behind something if they want--but just the difficulty for the sake of itself.

the plan is obviously to go straight down to pure black, but I must admit I am enjoying the demonbrandt for the time being. probably going to bump magic up to 12 so I can use Northern Regalia. basically my character is going to suck because I keep pumping weird stats to weird places just so I can use a bunch of different stuff. anything I equip or any style I play I'm going to be carrying dead weight in soul levels. I think my next character (should I have time to make one) will be a faith knight or a super strength guy. or maybe a blueblood sword user.

oh yeah bp selen was pretty fun too. wading out into the swamps to prevent her from healing (and failing twice), knowing both rolling and blocking are out of the question. just pure spacing and timing.

trying to farm a pure bladestone--especially with 7 luck and no sword of searching--is some terrible shit. I haven't even gotten a chunk yet, never mind the fucking pure. on the plus side, I did manage to lose 150k+ souls in the process.
