| Just KEEP HITTING THEM they should drop fast once you get behind them. I think I kill them in three hits with my winged spear or my long sword. |

If you're having trouble, revive with ephemeral eyes and try summoning some blue souls to help.
Has anyone been using the soul-luring items, or augites of guidance? The guidance stones seem a bit pointless, since I can only drop them, not throw them, but the soul-luring items (dropped by skeletons in 4-1) seem like an interesting idea. They lure those hungry for souls.
I tried them a bit on 5-2 to lure enemies out of the darkness, but haven't really done much with them. There's a whole bunch of items which I haven't used. I really get the feeling this game offers a lot more depth than you're likely to use.
Has anyone tried luring the Cthulu guys with the soul stones? Or thrown them over a cliff for an enemy to follow? |

| Cthulhu guys: Equip the Thief Ring and run up really fast and stab them in the back. If you miss, run away and wait till he shows his back again. |

I have. My character is strongest in spells, which take a long time to come out, so I use them to distract fast-moving melee enemies like the skeleton robots in 4-1 and 4-2. I feel like they work best if you have some amount of stealth, otherwise they come for you instead of the lure. Lures also hugely increase your chance of getting a backstab in.
4-2 is a lot more fun if you have stealth (unless you like being constantly impaled by flying stingray stingers) |

Beat every subworld's boss. The story to this game is having an interesting twist. Was I supposed to feel bad killing Maiden Astrea.? I felt the same way in the Prison of Hope, actually. _________________ interdimensional |

Astraea was a saint/missionary type who supposedly only went down to that valley to help the suffering (or, uh, maybe just sit and talk with them? get them to pray? not as if she could have done much for them), so I guess killing her should have that effect. I'm still pretty unclear about the plot of this game, even with the intro/ending and the Monumental's explanation. Maybe a lot of it is supposed to be left to interpretation? Another thing about the ending:
The narrator says your character eventually becomes a Monumental, but what if the Old One is woken again and the game events occur once more? That could give some meaning to the new game +(+++...) feature, or maybe I'm just reaching.
New Game+ is whooping my ass, as I expected, but I wish that you would still be allowed to upgrade even after beating the bosses. I did that, assuming that I could still cash in souls, but then the game ended/went to the next loop. |

1-4 is seriously really fucking hard. Am I supposed to kill the blue dragon? Can I beat 1-4 and then go back and farm for more souls? This is totally killing me, guys. _________________ interdimensional |

I'm not sure if you need to kill the blue dragon there. I summoned help and my partner killed him off with Death Cloud. If you don't have that spell, I think you can infect him with the plague using rotten arrows from 5-* (GameFAQs says 5-2).
If 1-4 is the last stage you have left to beat, you won't be able to talk to the Maiden in Black to exchange souls. Don't beat it until you've leveled up enough to feel safe for the next playthroughs. |

Yes, leave 1-4 until the very, very end, after you've done everything else (I went and did Mephistopheles assassination quests, for example).
After beating 1-4 I spent all my souls on upgrade stones for my weapons (costing 500-3k each), since I reckoned I'd probably die playing 1-1+ and those stones are expensive. Best stock up while the money was good. Hopefully it'll make my levelling of weapons easier, so I can net mje all the trophies (I don't know why, I normally hate trophies, but I really want the platinum in this).
I've been giving this a rest for the time being... I hope I have the ability to get back in to Game+ when I come back to it. |

The blue dragon in 1-4 is optional & you get a trophy for it, similar to the old king boss fight.
I stood underneath his chin after getting past him and just pelted him with soul arrow, using spice when necessary. It takes... a while. The first time you see him, when he burns the ministers on the bridge, you can cast death cloud on him though it's impossible to cast on him after he perches on the front of the entrance at the top of the stairs. |

I got my copy the other day as well, but I may not be able to dedicate much time to it for atleast a week because I'll be working 12 hour shifts...
The manual looks like it is full of information! Too bad I can't read it! Its also full color, which is kind of nice. |

I didn't really play Oblivion but yeah, I remember that character creator being pretty creepy, too. The one in Demon's Souls just freaks me out for some reason. Probably something to do with the male/female slider.

Hey, guys, selectbutton DS multiplayer talk is here. jjsimpso and I have been running a couple dungeons together. You should read the thread. DS multiplayer is definitely not Diablo.
Also, Toptube, what's ur PSN?

You're missing a URL there bro.
I got this in the mail earlier this week; I haven't had the time to really sit down and check it out though. Will maybe do so this weekend. |

I intend to start levelling my weapons to get the related trophies, can anyone give me a list of which to level for each type of upgrade stone?
For example, which are the best (in terms of using them) and the easiest (in terms of not requiring many stones) weapons to level up to 5 with suckerstones?
Also, can Game+ people play multiplayer with you say no to drugs, juicy j can't+ people?
I'm lvl 79 and while I want to do most of the early levels offline (to maintain world tendency - damn that bug!), I know I'll need help sooner rather than later. |

Also, this was a nice post from another forum, so I'm copying it here.
A black phantom invader helped a new guy finish 4-2!
Such a heart-warming tale - this could be the most wonderful thing I've heard about this game.

My coolest moment so far: Venturing into 4-2, not intending to complete it (it was getting late), but I heard the reaper near the start was good for farming souls, so I figured I'd see how tough he was.
Someone had dropped their bluestone at the entrance, looking to be summoned for some co-op action. I hesitated, thinking I could perhaps summon him and get through the level quickly, but I figured I'd rather go it alone another night, when I could take my time, check every nook and cranny for loot etc.
I killed the reaper quite easily, and despite not knowing what awaited me, I stupidly dropped down to grab his loot. Seconds later I got a message flashing on my screen, telling me a black phantom was invading my world. “SHIT! That’s all I need” I thought. At this point I didn't know my way out, and was regretting not summoning the guy back at the entrance.
Being a coward, I decided to hide and hope the invading player went away, so I dropped down a nearby hole, and then found I was trapped in a cave with an NPC black phantom guarding the way out.
While I was desperately trying to figure out an escape plan, the invading player dropped down from above into the room I was hiding in (a real brown trouser moment!). I stood back, waiting for him to make a move, but to my surprise, rather than attacking me, he turned and killed the NPC phantom.
I wasn’t sure if he was just playing around and would attack me at some point, but he went and stood on a switch, opening the door to the route forward, so I followed him….
To cut a long story short, he ran through the whole level with me, killing everything in my path (for which I got the souls and loot), and taking me right to the bosses doorstep. I even hit him accidentally a few times, but he’d just stop, heal himself, then carry on.
He left just before I reached the boss, and then sent me a message over PSN. It was in Japanese, so I explained that I was English and didn’t understand him, but thanked him for his assistance. He then replied in broken English, asking if I'd managed to beat the boss (I had), and we had a brief conversation about the game.
Probably my best experience with an online 'random' in years

I finished this last night. I was soul level 73 and had about 50 hours on my save file. Blue dragon in 1-4 was a pain. I kept dropping blue stones hoping someone could show me how to do it but everyone else was as clueless as I was. I never did manage to make it cleanly but I worked out how to make it past him only taking one hit, which was enough. Ended up facing the False King on my own when my soul helper was killed by the dragon.
Fantastic game and even after 50 hours I kind of want to play through it again with a more magic oriented character. I haven't even begun to explore the world tendency events, so there is a lot I still haven't seen. |

| After completing this, I've decided that the only real way to play Demon's Souls is to go melee-only. So rather than New Game+, I'm trying it again without the cheese. I think it's quite a bit deeper (and harder) this way! |

| Actually, Game+ is more difficult! So going with it melee only is cool. I've been doing that, and it makes you appreciate the subtlety of combat more (plus, I get to raise my stats a bit more). |

My first play through was as a Temple Knight and I pretty much stuck to that template. Melee is fun in this game, but I'd say the real challenge is with a lightly armored melee character who concentrates on parries and backstabs. My new character is a Royal who I'm going to play this way. Of course, I'll have magic to fall back on if I get frustrated.
I've noticed that most people use heavy shields like adjudicator and don't bother with parrying(as I did in my first playthrough). Also, not many people seem to use miracles that much. Dragon in 1-2 is much easier and faster to take down with Rage of God than it is with the cloud spells! |

| Nobody else go for a rounded character then? I played through as a royal first time, ending up at 99 with enough strength for a crescent uchigatana and enough equip for Gloom armour (with the +equip ring equipped, anyway) whilst still being a caster primarily. It's totally doable! |

My first character was a rounded Royal. Part of the reason I'm not doing Game+ with him is that I think quite a few of the bosses are boring if you have missiles as a serious option. (I.e. the final boss - wtf?) Also some levels like 2-1 are much more interesting if you are melee-only. But the other part is that I had some really annoying permanent misses:
- I spent my dragon god soul on fireball (which was awful)
- I killed Ostrava for Mephistopheles but didn't get the talisman reward for some reason.
- Then I killed Yuria before getting the assassination quest, so I didn't get a reward for that.
- Several unique items I couldn't take because of load limits.
- My main weapon was a +4 Crescent Secret Dagger, but I permanently scared off the only geckos with pure darkmoonstone, meaning I couldn't advance it any more.
- I took the insanity catalyst instead of moving soul arrow (major mistake).
This time I know I'm using all my major souls for weapon upgrades. |

| Just make sure you hit him in the head when he falls, as that is where you'll do most of your damage. Disengage lock-on if you are using it when he falls. Also, don't be afraid to run back up the stairs if you get in trouble or need to reset. If you can't easily work your way back behind him or he's too close to the wall, reset. |

I've heard the US version will use exclusive US servers.
Still, the US version will have some arty extras, which is neato.
Thoughts? |

Demon's Souls is coming to North America on October 6th for the PlayStation 3. Priced at $59.99 in a standard edition, it will ship with an art book and brand new cover art. Additionally, the game will be served on new North American servers. Atlus calls out Final Fantasy XI's online experience as a reason for the new servers. Ooh, burn.
The Atlus Spoils program continues with a $69.99 "Stop Importing It" edition. It will come with a 150+ page strategy guide and a fancy slip cover, too.
Again, both will be released on October 6th, which was announced here at Anime Expo for the first time. We'll get you pictures as soon as possible. |
I'm hoping that you can play the old version w/ the new version, so I can pass around my Asia copy and play w/ my friends.
Also, please, 2nd playthrough + let me have an easier time playing multiplayer? _________________ interdimensional |

I've heard that playthroughs 3+ only get marginally harder/more exp. I think at that point they want you to be battling other people lots so everything smooths out. _________________ interdimensional |

I read that, and I wonder what they mean about FFXI? Something about starting up the game on day one and servers being filled with lvl 75 characters? That's a little disappointing, I hope the game sells well though and people keep playing it. Day one purchase, anyway. _________________

I'm currently on my third play through. It is more difficult and you do get more souls (I think the bosses are more aggressive too), but the spike isn't as harsh as your first game to NG+. It's still hard, though. The way the difficulty scales in the game is beautiful.
I'm not sure about battling other people, though. After reaching 100+, it's pretty lonely despite the level range for invade/summon being broader. Recently I was able to complete 5-2, 5-3, and then kill Ostrava in 1-2 and Old King Doran in 1-1 all in a row in bodily form without being invaded and no one in sight to summon. During my first game it was a scramble to summon when in body as I would be invaded immediately.
I'm SL ~160 currently. If people need some stones and are in level range, we can organize a summoning. Or if you just want to roll through a level together. |

Well, depends! The US will have its own servers, supposedly not interacting with the other versions. Which means a couple things. If there are people you want to play with, you'd need the same version (can you request certain players be summoned to your world? I don't even know if this is possible). Also, Asian servers will probably have their be pretty steady and decline gradually, while the US ones will be booming for at least a while and drop off as is natural. Depends on how popular the game gets here, I suppose. Maybe that's the deciding factor. _________________
