Youngstown is so depressing that it has a really bummer Springsteen song about it.
Dayton does have some interesting stuff. GBV and the Deal sisters being from there is pretyt indicative of the odd music stuff that comes out of that area. |
Yeah. Dayton's pretty boring, which leads to a large music scene as people need stuff to do.

Yes. Frequent it as often as you possibly can. Buy beer and eat food. It goes to a good cause. |
Haven't been there in a while, but apparently a few friends' various bands have been playing there as of late so I'll probably end up there sooner or later.

Actually this is somewhat fuel to the fire of global warming, as most scientists theorize that gloabl warming will result in not just more warmth, but also in more extremes in weather, so having massive cold snaps actually does more to asupport the concept of gloabl warming than destroy it. The "warming" refers to the average temperature on the globe raising significantly, but in certain areas, that translates to things like what we are having right now.
Sorry, I used to know a bunch of conservatives who picked on al gore for giving a speech on global warming in NY on the coldest day that city had had in 100 years, not realizing how dumb it sounded.
Aside from that, we had that freakishly warm december, so, ummm, yeah.
As for the music thing, I lived a couple of floors up in my dorm at UD from Robert Pollard's son. I didn't even know he had a kid till I went there. |

WTF? I don't know who Pollard is/was, and I'm typing this from my student job at UD.
So we have a collection of people from all over the world, but a decent chunk of us are from ohio?

A comic I read tackled Global Warming once.
Ah, Overcompensating. What would I do without you?
I'd probably wind up driving to Topeka on March 2nd, that's what.

Just saying 'sup midwest in a midwest thread.
Am I the only one left who hails from Indiana? Kansas may be a bit far for March 2nd, as I'm moving to a new house that weekend.
Julie (my wife, for the new guys) and I were sad we couldn't attend the New Year's shindig in Louisville. Should another opportunity arise, we'll try to make it. |

Fucking terrible news, friends.
Fucking hideous news.
They shuffled us all in to a plant wide meeting to tell us this:
"Guys, times are tough. As in real tough! As such, we will no longer be tolerating such things as rampant absenteeism, goofing off, or any thing like that. We need everyone in this plant to do everything they can to make sure that we aren't given a reason to let you go."
So, my area manager sat us down one by one and discussed our vacation schedules. It seems I get to keep the days I have scheduled off for the Kentucky Meet Up/Throwdown but the days I had planned to be absent for the MidWest meetup were basically denied me. I can't really argue because, well, I need to keep my job. Also: mandatory overtime starting at the end of this month. So, I'll be working (most likely!) on Saturday's as well. This shouldn't last more that a couple months so...here's hoping!
I am sorry about this fellows. I really thought things would happen and we would all have a blast.
I'm going to go drink beer and be sad that I have to put up with this kind of crap to earn a living. _________________ Get Wild and Tough! |

Man! Really!?
Okay, my only question:
1) Is there anyone in this thread who is currently living on their own in the Midwest, and specifically chose to live there based on its Many Fine Points?
I'd like to suggest that "it's close to the relatives" and "my new job is there" don't count. |
Why I live in the midwest:
-I like it here. No, really. I don't like crowded places! But...I do love Tokyo so...
-It's cheap. I am a simple man. I have simple tastes. I will often make a hamburger or a steak with nothing on it. I am the type of person who can live anywhere.
-I just really don't give a fuck.
Why are you being so kind of snobby, Brendan of IC? Why are you doing this? This isn't the Brendan of IC I have come to know from IC newsposts. But then again...you don't eat meat so maybe it's just a vitamin deficiency that is effecting your attitude. Eat a ribeye steak and post here in the morning! _________________ Get Wild and Tough! |

I'm sorry if it's coming off as such, but after 22 years in Illinois/Indiana I am pretty sure I got enough of a taste to judge the chowder, yes? I mean . . . if you live there, you live there, but I'm honestly curious as to why you'd actually choose the place after looking at a map.
Liking it there kinda just brings me back to why and also hm?
Not giving a fuck makes me go hm, random lifestyle choices, make sure you keep your condiments away from your cleaning supplies.
I guess the cheapness, okay, but Thailand is cheap, too.
I most certainly do eat meat, and get all kinds of vitamins from Calorie Mate and Vitamin Pills and other sources because I am Brendan Lee, not Brandon Sheffield, for whom I have both respect and a cold beer, should he ever wander within close proximity. |
