"chou gi yo!" (i dont know how to romanize korean but pretend this is japanese) .. you wont got served in restaurants without this. gotta be ruude!
and ___________ duh joo se yo .. like bulgogi joo se yo. everything ends with yo, or da, for some reason in this language. |
Kapp is dead on. That first one is equivalent to saying "excuse me!" and will get you service all the time while the second line is just asking "please give me more ____."
One thing I remember about Korea was that if you can argue, you can barter for EVERYTHING, especially food and services. I went as a kid with my mom and her friend and her friend got us half price for EVERYTHING, it was amazing. She'd just tear the cashiers apart at restaurants, yelling at them for slow service, no refills, and just about every minute thing. Oh, also, if store owners/taxi drivers/other merchants see you and realize you're from America, they'll not so subtly hike up the price by like 50% or more. I guess this would already apply to you since you can't hide being non-Korean though.
Also, Japanese things like books and stuff are cheaper in Korean than in Japan for some reason, though this may have changed in the 10 years I haven't gone.
Also, as for eating dog - my friend told me that they only do that in some backalley secret places now as they are ashamed of it or something. He said a family friend hooked him up with some at this restaurant, ordering it off some unlisted menu, and he said the moment his mouth tasted the meat and felt the texture and flavor on his tongue, he couldn't go back. But then when he left the restaurant, a stray dog spotted him and wouldn't stop barking at him, as if he was tainted. The dogs, they knew.
Other tasty things to eat:
- bulgogi
- japche
- chicken (Kyochon? I think they have it there)
- bibimbap
- soondubu
- stuffs i'll update more later _________________
