I'm giving up reading. I expect to be unemployed within the week.

Fake Edit: That actually sounds really tough and interesting. Someone do this.

Man, are you actually going to lose your jorb?

No, no, no worries. I just meant if I was ballsy enough to give up reading for a month for a religion I don't believe in.

So you won't do it because of religion?

The church has got you licked! Under their thumb!! Afraid!!!

Is this supposed to be giving up things you like that you think are bad for you?

or things you like because its character building discipline to keep yourself away from the things you enjoy?

More the second one. To me. I'm not what you would call "Christian" or "religious" but I still enjoy participating in things like church services and prayer groups and church picnics and Lent and whatnot.

To me, Lent is about sacrifice, giving up something dear to you. Even though you know you can have it in a few weeks, it's still a pretty big tax on your character to stay away from it. Some people intentionally overshoot what they are capable of, say TV or video games or Facebook- things they use multiple times daily. Others pick unhealthy habits: smoking, drinking, fast food.

If you stick to it or not, the only person that knows is you. And God, or your priest, or Jebus depending on what you believe.

Also, Internetics: I don't know how you do your Sweet 16's, if it's some prim and proper cotillion type shit, but for us Dominicans, after the pomp and circumstance are done, it's PARTY TIME. But don't worry, our kids are still kids.

Diaz yelling at a white girl. What else is new?

Interwebics, the alcohol laws are pretty stupid in the states. Even getting caught is a relative slap on the wrist, especially if you blame the minors for buying and supplying the alcohol. If the adults are charged, it's still a pretty big slap on the wrist.
