i'd guess the former because it's prefaced by fat tuesday, and the latter because it's true
i haven't asked my aunt what she's giving up for lent, and i feel kind of bad that i don't take her catholicism seriously |

I think most Catholics feel bad that they don't take their Catholicism seriously. Christians are probably some of the least religious people I know, which is a good and bad thing.
Then again, I consider religion to mostly be an excuse. |
well, she converted a few years ago, and people tend to find it a big deal then, don't they? i don't know, man, but it really weirds me out -- of all things, why this thing? i've never asked her, and sometimes i'll let slip a joke at the expense of the catholic church and she'll mock resentment. |
