how IS the 360 doing in the rest of Asia? much like North America; or is it like the 'no man's land' of the "console war" or something? _________________ o-/< --- o-\< --- o-|-| --- o^-< |

Pfft. It was funny as hell. When it started, and the guy started to eat the candy, you could see the other guy close in and you knew what was gonna happen. Two awkward milliseconds later they were scarfing down on opposite ends. Eating closer and closer, racing almost. Then their liss meet, not really a kiss.
I mean, how could the commercial end without it being homophobic? What possible ending wouldn't be interpretted by someone somewhere as homophobic? Or sexist? The ending that aired was over the top comedy. The crowd I was watching with was totally glued to the set for the whole thing. Groaning, snickering then laughing it was such a weird commercial.Fuck America, this was a great commercial.
I'm going to buy 10 bars of Snickers today. Even though it is too sweet for me, and I'm more of a Mounds guy. _________________ Still alive. |

| I don't think the complaint was with the SuperBowl ad, but with the web site. It featured an alternate ending where one of the guys beats the shit out of the other to make up for the gay moment, as well as reactions from Bears and Colts players where they said the two guys kissing wasn't right and things like that. |

And shit, that's probably what they believe. I may think it's wrong for them to say it, but I'm not going to fucking scream for it to be taken down. To say that's giving children a bad idea is to prove that parents don't raise their kids.
People are mad at Snickers, but they don't seem to be mad at the football players themselves? And if they are I'm sure someone has apologized for what someone else really believed.

My two cents:
1. Good god, some of you dudes are so sensitive!
2. Football players don't raise their own kids, let alone other people's. I don't think this ad and the reactions of the NFL players are going to inspire kids to start gaybashing at their local elementary school. I'm pretty sure the dudes who murdered Matthew Shepard (nice invocation of a horrible act re: a fucking television ad, AMERICAblog) didn't do it because the television told them to. It's growing up in a bigoted family and peer group.
3. Maybe they were cringing because those two are some ugly mugs :( |

"and proceed to drink motor oil and I think anti-freeze - they guzzle it down, screaming at the top of their lungs, making them sick to their stomachs. The ad is vaguely violent - better to die than be gay." - snickers blog link
Way to over analyse and miss the point, this bit is more of a poke at macho facade than anything as ridiculous as that. _________________

it's doin' WAY the fuck better than the PS3
or maybe not
it's not doing bad, though
they release all of the games in the asian territories in a very timely manner -- that is, the same day they release them in america. and because those southeast asians are just about 900% inclined to pirate the everloving motherfucking shit out of everything, they even make the games 60% cheaper than they are in america, just to encourage people to buy legitimate software -- for many people in, say, hong kong, if your choice is pirated bullshit or nothing at all, official software starts to look tempting when it's less than half the american price.
man, owning a japan/asia region 360 is great! microsoft releases every US game in asia and the system menus and everything are still in english and you can play all the HOTTEST NEW JAPANESE GAMES.
i really can't stress this enough.
also in akihabara you can get a 360 with HDD for about $220. so yeah. _________________

Doing alright here in Korea, I think ~ I'm noticing a brisk trade in games and hardware whenever I'm up Yongsan way.
There's a bit more effort into pushing the product this time around too - advertising in Subway stations and on TV, demo pods in supermarkets, etc. Had a fair presence at the last GStar too, when Sony and Nintendo were conspicuously absent ...
If they put a bit more of the (probably wasted) Japanese marketing budget down here, they could probably clean up while the competition is being so vague about their plans - |
