Does anyone here have an opinion on this game?
Better yet, has anyone actually played it?
I think I must be half-way through the first disc (there are three), and it is by far the best-looking Xbox 360 game I've yet seen (and I've seen most of them), but it is incredibly easy and linear, and I am having a hard time justifying investing more time in it -- though of course I most certainly will.
As an example of how easy it is, every time someone gets killed they are automatically resurrected right after the battle. Even if you lose Shu -- the main character -- you can still keep going as long as at least one character makes it.
Also, health and mana-restoring potions literally grow on trees.
Did I mention it's absolutely gorgeous? The screens don't do it justice, and the artstyle grows on you like you wouldn't believe. Also, best enemy designs I've seen in ANY game. |

This is the same as Rogue Galaxy really, healing potions up the wazoo and characters being resurrected after battle. They are only resurrected with one hitpoint though. Are they resurrected with full health in Blue Dragon? |

i've only seen screenshots, but the art style kind of makes me think of what earthbound would look like in 3d on the 360. simple and bright
when is this supposed to come out in the states? _________________

Nope, one hitpoint here as well.
What a farce, eh? When will they learn?

The US section of xbox.com currently lists Blue Dragon as TBD... |

James are there pedo elements in Blue Dragon?
Also, if this game looks so nice, why not keep playing it? Is difficulty such an issue? _________________ The people are like wool to me |

I don't know, I guess the game is for, you know. Normal people!
Keep playing, Pikachu! The optional shit is hard as shit, I swear to you.
Though only in a Final Fantasy VI kind of way.
And the customization is pretty great. By the end of the game, you'll have a pretty personalized party.
I went onto the GameFAQs board for something a couple weeks ago, only to be shocked that there were no FAQs and see that there were no threads on the messageboard other than one about the soundtrack, in which three people agreed it's "Nobuo Uematsu's worst soundtrack ever". That's funny, because I swear it's his best -- he's stopped being a videogame music composer and kind of become a musician all of a sudden.
That's GameFAQs for you, I guess.
I have a review of BD in the 2006 Fukubukuro.
(Which really does exist, really!)
Also, the BD battle system (which majorly riffs on the Final Fantasy X battle system, only adds much more strategy (all characters on-screen at all times, no character is innately suited to any one type of monster, multi-monster-party battles) is 100% stabo-approved. _________________

| I agree with Tim Rogers, it's better that it's easier. Supposedly the point of RPGs is story, so why make it harder for the player to access more story? |

Hey, ressurecting all the PCs after every battle worked in The Spirit Engine. Of course things were made hairy there by lack of healing itemsw, but still it was a lot similar. _________________

i downloaded the soundtrack. i haven't given it an entire listen yet, but so far it's pretty terrible i think!
mostly bland rpg tunes, and then a few that sound like bland rpg tunes but now with wonderfully synthesized string sections (ie even more bland). like he is trying to be the boring dragon quest guy or the boring ff12 guy. there are a few neat electronic tracks ("omen" for example) that i have gotten to but so far it's pretty boring yeah.
also chrono trigger revived your dudes too. and all those saga games. or was that just your HP, and if you were dead you stayed dead? i forget. |

Score: -1, Pixelante
Or, yeah, Uematsu is trying to be like boring Dragon Quest guy or boring FF12 guy. That is, like a musician. _________________

you are right
i actually like them, in the first case because of "wow this sounds like what an adventure might sound like" and in the second case it is "wow this sounds like what a movie might sound like"
this is in my expert musicloving opinion of course (you see, in addition to not-this-soundtrack, i like some amount of "music" by "musicians").
edit: this is the worst discussion ever please no one respond but still listen to the boss music it is the best shit in the world http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0ogRNuseqY |

I sure hope so, man. After 5 minutes of fun figuring out how to initiate battles to my advantage (i.e. the back attack), I was just pressing X for like 3 hours.
But from videos I've seen you eventually get powers that you can use even before you engage in battle, so I guess I'll keep looking forward to those.

It'd be nice if I could have that sometime BEFORE the end, though.

The lack of info on this game is indeed disturbing. It's like, everyone is salivating over it for fucking years, mags and sites keep going on and on about those three famous dudes that are making it, etc. etc., and then when it comes out everyone shuts up and gets back to playing Gears of War or something.

Yep, which is another reason I'll soldier on to the end, regardless of whether I get tired of it. It's great practice for those who don't have Tim's crazy Japanese language skills.

Click on his banner for a link to his bullet witch review, which is on the site which has most of his other reviews. He writes a decent review, I will grant him that, though his previous board behavior, umm....yeah....well, he seems to be doing decent here, so I'm willing to let that go for now. |

I'd be more excited about this game if the character design hadn't been done by Mr. Akira Dragonball who is a terrible terrible hack. Monster designs are pretty ok, but every human being he does is just terrible. Consistantly.
I should think that the lack of faqs should be pretty obvious; It's a japanese game that's on the 360. Never mind what people tell you; the japs just don't want it. I'm sure verbage will pick up dratically when it hits the states
For those who've played it (tim?) how's the story? I've heard no mention of it anywhere, which makes me think it isn't all that memorable. I'm not saying it has to be in order to be a really fun game, but I'm curious. _________________
