The sides are compatible if the edges match!!!
Why does no-one who ever links this game ever remember to mention this? |
because discovering so is the only puzzle therein requiring any imagination? _________________

for my part, i'm responding to his dumping on weekend game jams like

The only worthwhile work I've seen to come out of one of these "jams" is Canabalt, and even that's just an unusually playable time-waster.
Is the indie community terrified that every one of these projects would end up like Fez if they didn't set an extremely strict deadline on it? |
that's not criticism, that's just some weird spiteful thing, like getting mad at sketchbooks being unfinished
nobody's not welcoming thoughtful criticism. just look at the judging comments after any ludumdare, they are full of clear headed advice from people with actually some idea of what it takes to make a game _________________

no shit but who really cares about your tastes
every question of a game being worth your time applies just as well to a piece of criticism _________________

you haven't understood at all
you are still doing this exactly

| There's this attempt to frame this argument in some kind of grand narrative about the Purpose of Art in this grim, materialistic way that dictates you have to elevate drawings and games and music to the same level of perceived importance as, like, sciences that help you learn how to build weather-resistant structures or stop wounds from bleeding, so art has to be measured by some arbitrary metrics to denote the movements of resources (TIME being considered a resource.) You're no longer hanging out and talking about your feelings about art and other potentially subjective shit, you're a warrior on the front lines of a new frontier, dude fighting for humanity's future. |
someone goes on a forum and eviscerates an unassuming, imperfect little game
you think he's saved you time, you think these are valuable Consumer Reports, but what has happened is you've replaced an experience-- an actual experience even if you don't care for it, of playing a game, an experience of an art object which even if bad art still has the magic of a being a made-up, hermetic little thing, a place or an event or a rhythm
you've replaced that with reading some hateful enumeration of Universal Poisons, of all bad things
a list of flaws isn't a map to anywhere
a list of flaws isn't even a list of flaws because that objective, rational, scientific superstructure which could tell you what is a flaw & for who & why, which is literally the only way thru which you could even talk about flaws or the Bad or the Good coherently-- you will never finish it, you will never even get a distant, hazed-over glimpse of its outlines before the ground beneath gives out and is replaced entire
i cannot say this better
