Jigsaw, don't put your baby up for adoption, which isn't to say don't let someone babysit, nor don't let someone hold the baby for a moment. You just gotta get in there, as Deets would say, and also as Dessgeega would say, at this point, you're either making games or you aren't.
This is the worst top post. I swear I don't try for this! |

all three have cool endings!
jigsaw, have you considered using openbor or something? i know it wouldn't really be making a game and you wouldn't be able to put in all the cool mechanics you've probably come up with, but it would be a way of having your characters punch guys until you get chance to do something better with them _________________

I've thought about it. I'm not at all against using tools that are available to make something, but I know for a fact that OpenBOR can't do most of what I'd like to do (at least last time I looked at it, admittedly a long time ago), so it's not really a viable option for that reason. Still, like you said, it's definitely something I could use in order to have characters moving around on screen punching each other, and it would certainly be an easier way of creating a proof of concept of sorts than, say, Flash or Unity or something. I'm also curious to explore Streets of Rage Remake's modding capabilities, because I know there are some, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure anything you were to make still kind of has to fall within the framework of the existing game. Incidentally I was always disappointed that the guy who programmed it never seemed to have much interest in making it a standalone platform for others to create beltscrollers with, because SORR has tons of cool little features and plays 100 times better than anything BOR-related that I've played - if anything that awesome engine was held back by being married to increasingly fan fictiony BS of the actual game content. Even back when I was working on it I was having kind of grand dreams of what I'd be doing with that engine if I had free reins (whether or not it would be attached to the SOR IP). Plus, you know, doing something unrelated to SOR would probably be a decent way of not getting sent C&Ds from SEGA.
I haven't been in touch with any of those guys in ages, but then I was never on particularly close terms with any of them to begin with. |

God I Hate Printmaking
Finally thought I found what I've wanted in the form of pronto plates, but nope
Cuba & everyone else: I will send you the editions when I can stop hating printmaking slightly
In the meantime, here are some smaller plans for what I envision as a larger final piece
Probably should start using rulers and/or graph paper |

Went to the river on Tuesday after a big rainstorm. Helps me think sometimes, and it'd been a while. I like to doodle there. Hadn't picked up a real pen in months, and did something hopefully decent. Hadn't colored in far longer, and hopefully...
All these years, I'm kinda not sure what my stance on muses are anymore. I've talked briefly about it before, I'm not sure if it's that I like the armored justice lady thing or if it's just that I really like shaped armors in general (like older fighter jets.) I don't know if it's a creepy or unhealthy thing or not, so if you folks'd rather me keep this to myself, I will.
What was especially weird was the process of coloring and drawing was such a brain drain on writing processes. Never really felt this way before, so it's all strange. |

They seems to be become a lot more pattern based. I notice the construction (of the image, not the architecture) in an abstract sense before I look at them as spaces.
More external view too, is that conscious?
Have you made any like this without the graph paper to compare? |

I just found out about this thread!! Aaaaa I feel so inadequate, you guys are incredible artists!!
Here's something I drew, it was really quick because I had a strict time limit, so the construction of the drawings and the colouring might be a bit shoddy
the character is not mine, this is what I've used as a reference: http://misteradventure.deviantart.com/art/r-292642480 |

Yep. I'm (vaguely) working off of a mental image I had when I was young.

Only the smaller ones above that have color.
Having trouble motivating myself to produce visual stuff this summer. Think it might be time to lock myself up in the studio and just churn bullshit out to get into the groove. |

We did this thing called Ream a while ago where 10 of us had to draw 500 sheets (a modern ream) in 500 minutes so 50 each which doesn't sound too bad but it was pretty hard on the brain and the wrist! Anyway these are the ones I had left that didn't sell on the night I thought I'd put them all together on one big page :]
part of it is below click for big. (you have to scroll about!)

You should have a menu option where you can use either the 3D models underneath or the pixel sprites you painted them from. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Not sure that would really work, to be honest. Well, OK, it may be doable I guess, but it'll probably look like shit. I'm all for having fun and pointless extras in games, but in this particular case it would likely be less like having an alternate graphics mode and more like optional, completely unfinished graphics. (which I guess would appeal to some, whatever) Painting over the 3D models to create final sprites isn't just a matter of translating things from one visual style to another, it's also a necessity for adding subtle secondary motion in things like hair and clothing. What Brooks says about squash and stretch comes into the equation as well, the 3D models will provide a blueprint, but not necessarily something I must (or should) slavishly adhere to 100%. No matter how "right" I can get something in 3D I still fully expect to have to do lots of fine tuning on a pixel by pixel basis to really get things right in the end.
Again, it's still nothing but theory at this point. I'm dying to put together some actual animations as proof of concept. |

In the olden days lots of artists would use bendable wooden dolls for reference. It makes sense that in 2012 we'd swap out the dolls for 3D models. _________________ interdimensional |

first animation test
the animation itself is kind of half-assed, but it's a proof of concept to figure out the workflow, and I guess a dry run of sorts to see what I'll need to change or fix before I start animating proper. I need to work out some minor kinks in just about every area - adding a little more detail in the model to improve the shading, change a few things in the rig for better deformation, tweak the lighting, etc - but I'm pretty confident it's gonna work out. |

Something about the design on this one isn't as good as the others. It might be because this one is good while the others are really good, though. _________________ interdimensional |
