circle infotech's blocksum reminds me most of creatures, inc.'s nonono puzzle chailian, in that it involves chaining together numbered pieces in groups equal to at least the value of those pieces (i.e. three "3" pieces, four "4"s). where the games differ is that while chailian is focused on a small, closed set of numbers (3, 4, 5 and 6, level up to the next higher number when matched to facilitate chains), blocksum's blocks are their values - rather than arranging them, you are adding them to produce matching sums.
holding the A button, you can combine any piece with an adjacent one - producing a larger piece with the combined values of both. combine a 1 with another 1 and you will create a 2. if there's another 2 next to it, those two blocks will start to glow before disappearing from the screen. this is the window in which you can combine more 1 blocks to produce 2s adjacent to the glowing ones, which will link up with them and reset the timer. in this way you can keep adding to the combo, drawing as many of the blocks onscreen into the combo as possible. in fact, the game encourages you to hold the B button until the screen is full, then attempt to clear the whole thing at once: the game doesn't end immediately when the screen fills, but rather a timer appears that ends the game when it reaches the top. creating a match will freeze it, and it will wait patiently as you build a screen-clearing combo.
your worst obstacles will be your own mistakes: combining the wrong blocks to create an 8 you can't possibly pull together seven more to match with. the game's one safety-mechanism is a special spherical piece that will clear all blocks of the same value as the one it's matched with. you can add a bunch of blocks into one huge shape and eliminate it at once. that there's nothing stopping you from at any time combining every block on the screen into a single 100+ piece is probably simulaneously the game's greatest strength and weakness.
(thanks to cycle for harassing me into doing a write-up of this.) _________________

| See, this game is why I haven't been getting anything done this week. I'm going to go play it right now, even though I have a Kanji quiz in 45 minutes. |

| I was like number 58 or so on the high score list? Maybe a little higher. |

I'm 53 last time I checked, too bad I didn't bother putting in my proper initials.
PROTIP: Don't do that thing Dess mentioned with clearing one big block with the... magic block thingy. It teaches you a lesson by not giving you another one for a very long time (not for the rest of the game I tried it in). |

I spent the whole afternoon trying to imitate the demo.
:(
I also missed my class, because I thought it was at 2 o'clock.
Edit: Merge two spheres and get instant 10k!
Also, I am consistently dying at the 30k-35k range. I can't seem to add fast enough in my head. _________________

I finally get the game to run, and it does not respond to input. It just says "press a button". Nice music, though. _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |

Merging spheres is a nice point boost, but not nearly as nice as actually using them to get rid of huge piles of problematic crap.
Also, 136743! My in-game ranking lists me as being in 59th place. |
