|
|
Getting started:
This thread is going to go over how to A) acquire the game and B) play and enjoy the game with us. If you want to discuss how much you like this game, or non-SB play (e.g. single or pubbie multi) please post in this thread.
Demon's Souls is available to play in English with either the Asian or Korean versions of the game. Everything else is totally up to you - the game is not region locked, nor is the multiplayer. You can pick up the Japanese version and play with us on a European account if you like.
In the beginning, you're going to play single player a lot, so use a reference. This wiki is made by gamers who know what they're doing. I cannot stress how much more useful it is to use this than to die a lot. Even with the guide you're going to do a lot of learning on your own, so you might as well streamline it. Community is good for this game, ok?
How to play with us:
*Add our PSNs. We're using the PS3 chat function to post about Demon's Souls. It's pretty rad and pops up messages on the screen while you play. You need an invite before it shows up in your chatroom list, so get a hold someone playing and have them send you an invite.
If you're new, you should realize this game isn't multiplayer friendly. You have to relish your opportunities to play with others. I connected with Sketch once, and it was cool, but it ended way too quickly. To be a host you need to have your body (not be a ghost). And to be summoned by a host you need to be a ghost (be dead) and a blue soulstone. Place your soulstone down and someone that's alive will see it and hopefully summon you. This system kind of sucks, but the PS3 chatroom makes this a little better.

I'd rather play some multi than brave new game+, so let me in on this. I think there's a stone in the endgame that lets you summon to specific games, though I'm not 100% |

Has anyone used the new PS3 chatroom function? It looks like it stays up even after you log out, and you can join any of your friends' chatrooms whenever you want. _________________ interdimensional |

I'd be up for this (in UK standard time):
Sketcz
I dropped the blue stone a few times but no one summoned me. Is it possible to be summoned in a level where you've already defeated the boss? |

| yeah, you're just helping out the guy who summons you. It won't effect your game in any way - the boss won't be cleared in your game, if you haven't done it already, et cetera. |

There are some goons at SA that use the PS3 text-only chatroom to set up games. I made one! So that means send me a message (psn anothergod) and I will invite you. I need more PSN friends, seriously.
I know not all of you have keyboards for your PS3s, but I do, so that means I'm going to use this as an option. Any USB keyboard should work, and I even got my Apple Wireless one to work. For a while. _________________ interdimensional |

So, I got a game going with AnotherGod, and the PS3 text chat worked surprisingly well despite only allowing short messages (I was a bit surprised the system could handle running both things simultaneously).
Unfortunately I had little experience in 1-2 and the dragon got AG.
I think I might practice and level up a bit more before allowing myself to be summoned. Some random guy called chanchan summoned me in 1-2, and I also died quite quickly. |

Yeah, as soon as I friend all you guys I'll invite you to the Demon's Souls PS3 chatroom. Just log into the chatroom before you play and you'll see popup messages from from it during your games. Very useful. _________________ interdimensional |

| Mine's Brock2097. I don't know if I can do multiplayer yet. I've only beat Phalanx (that's 1-1 right?) so far. Getting my ass whooped. |

I'm just C&Ping stuff I added to the OP:
"If you're new, you should realize this game isn't multiplayer friendly. You have to relish your opportunities to play with others. Has anyone else had an easier time getting multi going? I've only played with someone (outside of Sketch) once. It was a one and go kind of thing. It makes sense bc he was playing with me to get a body, but... eh. _________________ interdimensional |

| I think there's some sort of cap so you can't play with people when there is a large difference between your levels |

Having turned flesh, I had some really good multiplayer sessions last night, summoning blue souls, again with anothergod (are you on US eastern seaboard time?).
Felt really guilty though, because on 1-2, me, AG and another guy made it close to the boss when AG went down. So me and the last guy enter the world and while he distracts the boss (he was melee), I head up top to take out the archers and boss using magic. So the guy is down below, hacking at this enormous knight's ankles, dropping his HP, and I'm up top firing. The boss is well distracted, and suddenly I think to myself: "No you crazy fool! It's not worth it. Stop taking him on down there and come hide up here where it's safe." Anyway, eventually my helper snuffs it, in the process enabling me to knock off a lot of the boss' HP, and I beat the level. Sadly though any blue souls that die don't receive any rewards after the level is finished. I gave him an S rank though in the ratings screen, because he really gave it his all. Still, felt a bit bad that he'd risked his life down below and I couldn't help him.
I'm really going to try building up my melee stats now. It seems like bad show to cower in safety while my helpers risk soul and limb.
After that, myself, AG and someone else took on 4-1. AG was doing well as melee but died due to lock on trouble, while the other guy guided me through the level, pointed out some secret treasure I would have missed, and then helped me beat the boss. Seriously awesome, and much, much easier in multiplayer.
There was some great teamwork on show.
The chatroom idea is a really good one, but it can be frustrating when one guy dies and you can't stop to talk because you're in the middle of a heated battle. And then that guy has to wait a while before he can be summoned again.
Anyway, assuming I don't snuff it and become a soul, I'm up for trying worlds 2-2 and 5-1 tonight with anyone who's interested. |

Central Standard Time here.
And yeah, games were super fun while they lasted.
I'm about to take care of a few things and then head back in to play some more. Hopefully you're there. Euro, right? _________________ interdimensional |

| I've now got spare Gash Resistance and Fragrance rings (Fragrance costs 60,000 souls and recharges magic) up for trade, and I know Stonefang tunnel like the back of my hand if anyone needs any help. I'm mainly looking for a Ring of Avarice, but I'll trade the rings for some Darkmoonstone, especially the bigger ores, to level my Rapier. |

I can't kill Maneater on 3-2. Which weapon is best suited for him so I can upgrade it ? My Dragon Longsword or my Moon Winged Spear ?
Also got Uchigatana if that's any better and which shield should I use, Purple Flame or Adjudicator ? _________________ psn: Cryptomensia |

| Shields are pretty much useless against Maneater because all of his attacks break your guard. Try whichever weapon you can work faster with to get in as many hits as you can, then dodge away and repeat. Ranged magic spells will make things easier. Stock up on HP/MP refill items. To make dodging his attacks easier try huddling near the big torch in the middle of the bridge. Try reviving yourself if you're not in body form and find some partners to help out. |

Use Firestorm if you have it. Also keep Total Protection up, of course.
The Adjudicator's Shield is terrible. Stick with Purple Flame I guess, unless you have access to a fully upgraded Dark Silver Shield. |

Dark Silver might work, but large shields work better generally (minus Adjucator). Even the Steel Shield from 2-1 works well vs. the Maneater. _________________ interdimensional |

| The reason I say Dark Silver is because Maneater does a lot of magic-based attacks. |
