Might I suggest that you sample, if you haven't already, early Dextor's Labaratory and Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Batman: The Animated series. The Batman show aired around the same time as the Xmen cartoon and, I think, was a better show for the type of argument you're trying to present.
