Is it a Sphinx or a Griffin?

Anyway, in ICO you have the power and your companion is helpless; in TRICO you are helpless and your companion has the power. Similar but completely different, especially in how you get emotionally attached.

What if Udea is going for a typical three act play trilogy. Although ICO was second chronologically and in the second act things are supposed to get really bad.
Whatever, just throwing out ideas.

it looks like it'll be fun to play but watching it i can't help but wonder what people are thinking pushing for photorealism using the current methods which are wholly unsuitable for the task [aka ugh plastic walls]

i don't think i'm the right guy for this game, but i think we'd have a fun weekend or two before parting ways

spinach re: ugly walls. My first thought before I knew what it was a trailer of, was that it kind of looked like a Heart of Darkness cutscene.

Yeah, I've been looking forward to this since that job posting, and I've been waiting to invest in another little box under my TV until I know more about it, and yeah this potentially outdated trailer's really neat, but ummm...

how do you play this game?

And why is that one dude denouncing Ueda as a hack without knowing the answer to that question?

F'real.

You guys know that Agro doesn't actually die in SotC, right? He comes back. Granted, his leg is broken so he's pretty much as good as dead by today's standards. Still.

Also I bet, if anything, it's the kid that maybe-but-not-really dies this time and not his animal companion. Put your chips on that one.

Guys, seriously, killing the character and then OH WAIT NO HE'S OKAY is actually more dishonest than just killing the character.

Which is just another way of saying that I don't think much of Fable 2, and I think even less of the postscripts to both Ico and SotC.

and even given the very very ends or whatever, chick in SotC is still marooned in the middle of nowhere and is eventually (likely) warped into the Ico queen. The horse is as good as dead. Even if he's reincarnated as a child, Wander still died a hellish death and suffered greatly on account of his egotism.

Ico's whole beach thing is slightly retarded and may be the hallucinations of a dying boy.

Yeah!
I mean I can accept a heroic sacrifice. Thats what happens in stories. Han should have died at the end of Star Wars. its how things work
i was annoyed when Argo came back and nope there was a happy ending after all!

this was at least the prevailing IC/SB opinion for some time, if it isn't now.

I like Ico better.

Then it's very unfortunate that the story you've chosen to tell has been irradiated by storytellers less skilled than you are.

I realize that I'm coming down a bit unnecessarily hard on this one issue, but I kind of feel the same way about playing the Death Of An Ally card as some people feel about using rape for the purposes of drama. You've got to be really careful if you're going to attempt it, or it comes off feeling gratuitous. The sort of bait-and-switch that Ico and SotC pulled might have been okay if only one of 'em had done it, but the plot device as a whole has suffered from its mishandling.

There's also the issue that videogames as a whole are a little too dependent on the idea that "life and death" are the only two meaningful outcomes for any given dramatic situation. Your enemies are always trying to kill you, only you get to kill them first!!

It's narratively lazy. There should be room for conflicts in our stories that do not hinge entirely on one's immediate survival.

Depends if you concider the mega CD sequel as valid or not. If you don't, the answer is maybe. If you do the answer is he gets to die later.

That can be said of every happy/romantic ending in any story, ever.

- The prince hallucinated that he was embracing the princess at the end of 'Prince of Persia', even though she was clearly already dead and he was in fact hugging her lifeless corpse.

- In Final Fantasy VIII, when you wait til after the credits and see Squall and Rinoa kiss, that's really just the crazy fantasy of two star-crossed kids with early-onset dementia that will forever ruin their chances at finding happiness.

- At the end of the movie 'Brazil' he fantasizes that he escapes and lives in the country, when actually he has just been tortured to insanity.

I don't hate Ico, but Shadow is definitely better as a game and as a story.

so isn't it a departure that your ally lives through his sacrifice, with only an injury? how did you know your horse died? why make that assumption? is the only reason for this assumption other videogames which have come before?

I wonder what level of Dog Training mechanic is in this game. The video shows him feeding him a few times, I wonder if it can turn on you if its unhappy or won't listen if its distracted. Having to chase it down because it sees a bug or something could be entertaining/frustrating.

I love both Ico and SotC, and I stoked for this seemingly combination game. I agree though with those that would maybe want him to stray just a bit from Ueda-land the next game. If anything just to see what other chops he has.

That was the horses name in the game man. That's what the boy called him whenever you pushed the X button. It was in the manual.

It's like, why even name anything, right?
