The first game-related device I imported was a Super Famicom Bomberman multitap, to play Super Bomberman 2 with. The first game I imported was Kururin Paradise for GBA. I have not stopped since that moment.

| @nocturnedelight: i liked orbital very much. but most other people who had any opinion about it gave it a thumbs-down, when the subject came up on the IC forum. it's kind of like katamari with an uber uber uber simplified control scheme (2-buttons, no d-pad) and a neat "gravity makes you go" physics system. soundvoyager is nice to look at & listen to, but it's really just a mediocre no-fun not-game that's dressed up to seem as if it should've been kinda good (but it's not good). i recommend orbital. but instead of soundvoyager you should try dotstream (i didn't like it, but everyone else did) or dialhex (good puzzle game, held my attention nicely) instead. |
I recently got both Dotstream and Soundvoyager. They are both very cheap in YesAsia.com, so get them from there. I consider both to be amazing games. Soundvoyager is such an unique experience. It's not a gamey game, as teecee has already said, but a game about the experience of playing it. Most games require that you use quick reflexes and mostly hand-eye coordination, but when the 'eye' part of the equation is removed you are left with a soothing aural experience. Half of the game is basically aligning yourself to incoming sound loops in order to 'catch' them; they are stacked upon one another and music is formed. These sections are linked by more proper games, in which you might have to chase a rooster or avoid incoming traffic, and they can be played for a score, but the real heart of the game are the Soundcatcher sections that I explained above. It's perfect for a game to play just as you're going to sleep: your eyes might be too tired to watch a screen, but dozing into Soundvoyager is joyous. There should be more games to play at bedtime!
I don't know about Orbital (I'm interested in it too, though haven't played it,) but Dotstream is the most unique racing game I can think of, with the perfect chiptune soundtrack (each game track has its unique music track and sound effects.) The game's a total trip. I've also played some Dialhex, and I thought it was kind of boring, really; the music was nice, but the gameplay was repetitive and slow. |
