The goal is to pick up a Konami game. Any Konami game. Preferrably from the bargain bin, but since it is FKW, you can splurge and buy a new game! Suggestions? Post them!

I would recommend Gradius 5 for the Sony Playstation 2. Its not obscure or anything, but its fucking boss. Plus Treasure developed it, and they started from being folks that ditched Konami! So its got more Konami history than most.

I went to the vintage game store and bought two today.

I am writing a thing about them now and am considering playing them at some point in the near future.

Toups, what is your policy on the frontpaging of FKW articles?

I think that he should make the front page have a special announcement of FKW and have it link to the Section rather than the Force Feedback.

write about moon knites also and don't mention Boktai. Or, actually, do and litter the thing with factual errors and wink at DAIS a lot but not in a nice sort of way.

So after rummaging through the used-bin for an hour, I came out with :

Shadow of Destiny (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid (Gameboy)

WTF...I didn't even know they made a Metal Gear Solid for the original gameboy...or is this Ghost Babel, just without the actual words Ghost Babel on the front of the cartridge?

If any of you have Gametap, Silent Hill 2 and 3 are now both available for play. You should be subscribing to get the new Sam & Max episodes early anyway, so take advantage of one of their frequent deals to get your first month for even less than the usual $10-12 and survival your horror (if your PC can handle it).

I just put my new PC together (after a month and a half of not having one at all really) and you just reminded me that I need to reinstall this prgram. thank you.

I picked up Nemesis GB for $6. I'm enjoying it far more than I thought I would!

After playing this and watching someone else tear through Operation C, I'm really beginning to appreciate how well Konami used the original Gameboy's resources back then.

Rage Racer-tracks, better-than-GT4-cars, an arcade-esque soundtrack and I got mine for about 8-10 bucks.
Enthusia Professional Racing, featuring level ups for every car for the price of a mediocre racing-game - what are you waiting for? There isn't another racing-game out there that delivers THAT much for 10 bucks.

I picked up Axelay months ago for 5$ dollars.

I still don't know what to really think about it, maybe If I could get past stage 3 I would have a more defined opinion.

I picked up ZOE2 a few weeks ago. this must be the time when I try to finish it. I never played the first ZOE, is that okay? already the story makes no sense

I thought I would watch the title screen FMV for backstory but it went on for like 5 minutes before I realized it was tons of advertising trailers mashed together.

The US cart for the Game Boy MGS didn't say "ghost babel" on it. Same thing for the cart's sticker.

Neo-Contra is very nice, at a very tiny price ($8 or some garbage like that). It only REALLY fun if you try to s-rank stages with the impossibly powerful weapons they give you, but it definately makes it worth the price for a budget pickup.

Also, I purchased the original Zone of Enders, and my PS2 read the disc until I got to the first non-tutorial mission, then refused to load it ever again.

The intro was nice in an 80s-anime kind of way.

So you're right! I got my copy from an import site, so I thought it had "Ghost Babel" on the cartridge in the US as well.

I have picked up TWO Konami games for cheap in the used bin/bargin bin.

One is absolutly fantastic and when I say this I am talking about me some Suikoden! I got Suikoden 1 for 7 bucks at Toys R' Us! I said "Ah this looks like a nice RPG, eh might as well try it out" and this is what started my whole Suikoden phase.

One is PRETTY DARN GOOD just really frustrating! Azure Dreams. I got this for 5 dollars exactly from EBGames. Around this time I also picked up Castlevania: SOTN for pretty cheap too (for the time) I got it for 15 dollars. So I think I have pretty good luck when it comes to cheap Konami games. I also have gotten Silent Hill 2 and 3 for under twenty dollars!

I had forgotten Konami produced Azure Dreams! I'll give this a spin later on in the week FO SHO.

I got Lunar Knights. Better than Boktai simply because I live in the Seattle Area and there's not enough sun around here.

I AM NOW. I would never sell either game though! Plus I bet my copies wouldn't sell for that much since they are not in the box. But if I found the boxes!!

Lucky find, either way!

Back on topic I picked up Contra for gameboy.

It kind of sucks, but I like the graphics a lot.

I also got Fist of the North Star for the gameboy, which I had no idea existed! It's not Konami though.

The strategy guide goes for more. It usually ends around $80-100.

You're lucky. The european version has special features not in the US edition, like a sound test for completing the VR missions and a radio drama you can listen to after beating the game once. It made me sad when I finally realized those bonuses simply weren't in the US cart. They even quote the radio drama in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Gamestop nearby had exactly one used Konami game.

Neo Contra.

$9

This is bringing back a traumatic childhood memory.

Managed to get both Subsistance versions of MGS 2 & 3 for about $10 each after they were discontinued. MGS3 Sub I'm really happy about since I was holding out playing the original until that version came out.

And then when it came out I chose Suikoden 5 over it. But I saved money in the long run.

Yeah, I'll second that Neo Contra reccomendation since the world abandoned the game sometime ago. Not that it wasn't deserved, but few stores sell it for over $10 and it's totally worth it for the wtf factor. For example....

A. You fight a battle on top of a helicopter. Not on the nose of it or something, but literally on top of the spinning blades. You're running fast enough to keep up with them.

B. You fight a giant bi-peal Vagina. There is no way to construe this enemy as being something other than that; a vagina is what it is.

C. One of the bosses you fight is a talking dog in a jet ski mech. He is not played for laughs.

D. A reversable cover featuring crazy art from American comic book legend Jim Lee.

E. and this is to say nothing of the INSANE intro video. I will mention nothing of it so as not to spoil anything in it for those who haven't seen it.

Overall I rather enjoyed the game, but I predict it will be the last time we'll see a brand new Contra game for many years. Primarily because the gameplay just isn't to modern tastes. It's just not.
