I fell in love with Bemani the day that Extreme came out into arcades (or atleast close to it).
My first experiences were with MAX USA on the good ole PS2 with those register-if-you-want-to soft pads.
Actually, my first experience with bemani was a couple months earlier. My friend Christian wanted to show me this thing called dee dee arrr. I went over to the friends house that we always went to and he hooked up the pads and started to lpay a song he was trying to practice passing. For those of you who know it, it's RevenG's good ole Exotic Ethnic. Well, from a 3rd person perspective seeing someone jirate like a madman all over a controller because a video game told you to is really hilarious. I laughed until I was crying and wheezing. Of course a couple months later I was forced to try it and immediately fell in love with how "hard" it was and how much practice it took to do anything.
Of course, as my love (read: DEEP OBSESSION) grew, it eventually evolved to have me buy this:
As a poor college student with no money, and hardly any job I would not be stopped (after all, I had credit cards! I only just recently finished paying off that beast.) And as my interest (read: HORRIBLE OBSESSION) continues to grow I am now purchasing a para para paradise for my wife and probably many more from the bemani series in the future. |
