i imported Goemon 2 a few months ago from japan game stock, and i still haven't sunk my teeth into it yet. so far i've liked what I played, the graphics are better than mystical ninja, and it's a lot more side-scroller-y. the bunny suited enemies are fucking ridiculous, though i'm not a very big fan of the giant robot battles at the end of each world.
let's talk about how awesome goemon is in this thread. i'll post pics of my experience when i get a little deeper into the game.
p.s. this seems to be the only snes goemon game where you can easily get away without knowing japanese. in all the other ones you need to navigate dialog options and buy certain items, which can easily be solved by a faq, but it fucks up my flow

The Impact battles are definitely an acquired taste, and truthfully aren't very elegant. I think I enjoyed the dam fight in GG3, though, and I missed the Impact sequences in GG4 (the end-world minigames just don't cut it, frankly).
I really do hope there are eventually translations for 3 & 4 within my lifetime, though. Three isn't quite as awesome as it should be, but it's still pretty neat, and four is an absolute blast. _________________

Word up for Goemon!
Legend of the Mystical Ninja is still my favorite, just so damn well made.
The rest of the GGs on the SNES seem to try and push the weird as much as possible and it got in the way a little for me.
They are hilarious yes, they are a blast to play yes, but I still think how solid the first one is just makes it that much more satisfying.
The N64 one was a ton of fun! In a crazy "they fit everything they thought of into the game" exploration kind of way.
The 2nd N64 one was also a ton of fun! In a hardcore 2D game kind of way.
Here is a question... were any of the later games on the Sony systems good? I saw some screenshots early on but they just kinda disapeared after that... |

Man, you cats gotta read the Hardcore Gaming 101 feature on Goemon. Kurt won't always give you an opinion you can agree with wholeheartedly, but he generally describes games well enough for you to decide whether they are worth checking out or not.
Also, everyone, by the end of FKW, I want you to have played at least one world of Ganbare Goemon 4. There are only two or three parts where you have to reference a FAQ (the towns on Goemon's and Yae's world, I believe).
Just remember: don't use savestates! _________________
