Suikoden III has lots of redeeming features - common, they only let you name the hero you never play. That's pretty wild, as far as these things go. Of course, I hate the automated fighting and lots of nibbling aspects, but it tries really hard to be something different storytelling wise.

Oh, it's worth it. It's a really "aw crap" moment. Sadly, apart from that and being able to mess around with their true runes, it's not much of an gameplay addition. Even if you win the rigged battles, the story doesn't change, so.

I gave up at the boss, because they let me save on a place where I'm locked out of any upgrades or item shop before the final battle, and they never mentioned that. It's also easily the worst Suikoden boss ever and I hate it with a passion. Actually, the only reason why I went that far was because I reached the level cap with my regular crew mid-play - I was stuck on the ocean for 15 flipping hours trying to understand/activate the next story part. I never thanked god so much for a player character than when Vicky appeared.

Albeit I'll wonder forever how the hell can she teleport an entire fleet of ships tru the mirror. A bit of oversight there.
