I was really sad that I didn't participate in this event last year and slowly the event is slipping through my hands yet again. I've already decided for FKW'07 that I would play all of the bemani games I own for atleast 1 hour each but on top of that I'd like to beat a game. Can someone suggest a relatively easy yet fun Konami game that has an expected time investment of 5-6 hours max? With interviewing at a new job and working overtime at my soon to be old job plus valentine's day with my wife, saturday work and a birthday party to go to it seems like I will have little time to do much more than a simple game.
I'm open to suggestions! Hopefully I will already have the game in stock! |

Deets is correct, I played through Rocket Knight during the previous FKW, and enjoyed it thoroughly. _________________ The people are like wool to me |

Like 15 hours short?
Rocket Knight Adventures is the correct answer. Does anyone have Chaz's avatar from last year? _________________ My Hawt Blog Vita Games

I think last time I played it, which was the first time in years, I did it in 4 hours or so and was relatively thorough. |

I'm going to post in this thread about my FKW thus far because it makes sense. Other than a bit of La-Mulana, the only time I've had to play games is on the subway on the way toand from work. Yesterday it was Castlevania: Bloodlines, today it is Contra: Hard Corps, tomorrow it will probably be Rocket Knight Adventures. If I can find a decent PSP SNES emulator, I will squeeze TMNT IV in there because it's been at least a year since I played through that.
So yeah, if you've got a PSP, that is definitely a workin' man's best friend for FWK. _________________

I don't think there is one in honesty, even clocked at 333mhz they all seem to run incredibly sluggishly.
True the PSP is great for FKW though. The Gradius/Parodius/Salamander/Twinbee packs are great, and SOTN & Dracula X are emulated well. Pity Chronicles crashes all the time :( |

4 hours to complete Snatcher seems like a goddamned speed run.
La Mulana is practically a Konami game (you can combine the Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 cartridges to make an exclamation mark appear over Lemeza's head when you solve a puzzle!), but it's completely insane and at least 25 hours long, so fuck that. |

I beat Contra: Hard Corps at work today. What a sweet game. I had only played it a tiny bit before, and I don't even think I realized you can play as a diminutive robot with a double jump. It's not as good with the run n' gun stuff as Contra or Contra III, but the graphics and music/sfx are awesome, and the gun situation (slotted with different weapons for each of the four characters) is awesome, and I think there might be multiple paths (I had to answer some questions which had two answers, but since it was in Japanese I can't be sure what impact it had).
Then I tried playing through Rocket Knight Adventures again. That damn lava level ate up all my continues until I realized you have to use the reflection in the lava to find the platforms to jump on. So I game over'd shortly after that. It's a pretty cool game. Mostly because the graphics are nice with big sprites and decent backgrounds, but the rocket pack mechanic works out well enough. I'll probably get back into it and try to beat it again sometime, but I think I'm done with it for FKW.
Any other great Genesis Konami games I need to play besides Castlevania: Bloodlines? _________________

the newest TYL (4.1? i think) runs just fine with a frameskip of 1, and the "GPU + approximate software" or something like that, rendering engine. |

0.4.2, yeah, I was gonna try that. I had played a couple of games (SMW, Super Metroid, something else maybe) and they had big problems right from the start such as things being entirely missing/invisible. But I'm going to try it out with TMNTIV and CastlevaniaIV and see where it gets me. I could do it right now if I just had the damn usb cable for my psp with me. _________________

Someone mentioned Castlevania IV which I recently bought for the Wii. I've lost a lot of my games in the recent flood I had so I will stick with that one to try. If I beat it, I beat it! If not, oh well!
Thanks for everyone's suggestions! = ) |

Castlevania IV plays okay on 0.4.2 with a frameskip of 1 or 2. I can't get over how bad the sfx for that game are though. I mean the music is great, but the whip sound effect is so annoying, and that is about the worst sound effect to get wrong. So between the bad sfx and the frameskip, I think I'll pass on this one for now and play it some other time on my computer. I've got Bloodlines ayways, which I think I like more, so I'll try beating that one again.
TMNT IV runs like shit on 0.4.2 :( I decided to go with the Hyperstone Heist for Genesis instead, which I played this morning. It's definitely inferior to TiT, but not too far off. The 3rd level is pretty cool, but that's as far as I got before Tatsu killed me and I go to my subway stop. _________________

Yeah. It needs to skip too many frames for it to be fun to play. Should I be using the ME version or something? I don't even know what the difference is though. _________________

Today's was Parodius Portable day on the subway. I had only ever played Parodius and Parodius Da! so it was definitely a treat to play some of the others. Someone had mentioned a Konami sign killing them (I think it was in the Konami Blitz thread actually), and yeah, it's definitely in at least two of the games. One with an all text logo, and another with the double wave image.
I don't really like horizontal shooters because they're usually more about not running into the walls (fuck you lifeforce) and there just aren't enough bullets, but Parodius really has enough going on to keep me entertained, and the graphics on most of these are really great. I also love the auto mode because I always have a terrible time managing my powerups in Gradius V, so I like to just let the game do it for me.
I can't remember which game, but in one of them you can play as an option!
I also played a little bit of Twinbee Portable, but that one wasn't impressing me so much. Maybe I'll try again on the way home tonight. _________________

This thread reminds me that I forgot to make that Contra III vs. Super Probotector-topic this year, but well ... talked with two mates about that game(s) yesterday and we kind of agreed that these fighting robots give the game a different feeling... and I love the robots more than the soldiers.
It's still the best change that could happen to a game that was to be altered to fit a "european" release. Needs a poll, so maybe when the next FKW comes around then! _________________

I played the japanese version of Castlevania III on the way home yesterday instead of twinbee. The sound effects are much nicer, although the improvements to the music seem subtle so far. Playing this game again just kind of made me upset that I wasted my time with the first Castlevania since this is so similar, but so much better. _________________
