They're not emulating mappers right! That's basic stuff!

Right. I want to start a website to let Nintendo know this shit won't fly. Is anyone in?

Online Petition?

I mean, really, just put your money where your mouth is. Send nintendo an email with your nintendo.com account name (and make sure to register an obsene amount of games) and say "look at how much I buy! This is also only first party support, imagine my third party support. Don't do this shit I won't take it and am not buying it."

That's what I'd do.

I'm guessing they'll release a fix, sometime.

Like with that one TG game, I think. Forget which one, though!

Yeah it's not surprising that their emulators are a little patchy compared to what we're used to. I mean the state of the art on PC evolved over a decade, and Nintendo had probably about a year to slap together five emulators. Hiring/transferring the necessary largish team of low-level programmers must've been a challenge.

Come to think of it, the incomplete nature of their emulators might have a lot to do with the small and random-seeming VC selection. (I bet Solomon's Key is not very difficult to emulate!)

Yeah, they fixed Military Madness' scrolling issues, so perhaps if enough people give a shit they'll fix this issue, too. This password problem doesn't seem gamebreaking at all, either. Unless you desperately wanted to totally pimp Pit out or whatever.

I wouldn't use the euro VC at all, though. It just seems kind of hopelessly terrible.

Hey Tim.

What's wrong with you man? You're suggesting that the people who live in America should have to rely on Play-Asia to get overpriced games that we can't even read and aren't guaranteed to be available at a lower price in the future?

You've been in Japan for too long.

I hope they can use Chip N' Dale's Rescue Rangers.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the rest of this. Besides I was just checking the price of Kid Icarus on eBay. Better off getting it on VC, because they just MIGHT put those passwords back in.

Wes I dig your new avatar. Keep it for a while, okay?

James would you like to play a game or have a perfect recreation of your childhood before you became a bitter trollish aesthete for all eternity, okay? Or perhaps Mustache is right and you just need more pure 8bit, okay?

Rabite now you've finished off that wine and there's nothing left. Retry Yes/No?

I was in a used gamestore the other day. The cheapest genesis game that was worth a damn was $10, and Gunstar Heroes was $30 out of box. I went home and bought Gain Ground on the virtual console.

Ahh. I stand corrected. People in Europe should import everything. They should do it from America though, where games come out earlier, are cheaper, and can be played in English.

The year I was in Japan just happened to be the year that all of the Japanese games started coming out in America first. I was at the Tokyo Game Show standing in line to play Super Monkey Ball 2 even though I already had the US version sitting in my system at home. I did this just to get the free Super Monkey Ball washcloth they were handing out. I explained this to the guy handing out washcloths and he gave me one without making me play it. What a nice guy.

In conclusion: Tim should probably import a US Wii.

I... really don't understand why this is a big issue? I mean it's not like Kid Icarus is so prohibitively difficult that you'd ever NEED to use passwords anyway, and besides the virtual console saves your gamestate on anything pre-N64, making the need for passwords more or less moot.

Anyway, as far as I understand it, they didn't remove the entire password system, just the "secret" ones which let you play the entire game from the beginning with full powerups.

I agree with Toups. This is a silly thing to be upset about. It's not like they took Mike D out of NBA Jam or anything.

I haven't noticed any big changes in framerate in Kirby. I think it plays fine, but I haven't really played the NES one in ages.

I give it two stars out of 2.83 stars.

Hey everyone who's telling me this isn't an issue:

It's not about Kid Icarus. It's about doing the job properly and doing the job properly in future.

If indie devs can do mapper support, I expect mapper support from the company that made the mapper.

If a company is trying to sell me a service, I do not expect it to be less than a famiclone.

I see your frustration, or, well, you know what I'm trying to say. However, the most you can do at this point is to not buy the specific product, and then tell Nintendo, "I am not going to buy this because you did X wrong or you did not even include X."

Once again, I'm sure a fix will pop up within the next few weeks.

I think the issue is more that - is it even confirmed that this is a mapper issue? Why do the non-cheaty passwords even work if that's the case? I'm seriously interested in hearing the answer to this!

For once I second everything James is saying.

Also a site would be a great idea assuming it was done well. I think its better than taking the time to write Nintendo a letter they wouldn't even give Reggie to wipe his ass with.

I always assumed a love of videogames played a part in your move to Japan and original desire to learn the language. If that's true then this statement seems disingenuous.

so you don't notice when the game slows down to a near halt when more than two sprites are moving on the screen at once? or even when kirby is the only thing on the screen and you use a spark or freeze attack??

You can't get true low-res from emulators running on the Xbox.

The best way to emulate games has always been on PC. Everything else is a compromise.

Um. Yes. I thought it was like that originally? These cobwebs, you know.

I don't LIKE spark or freeze anyways!
