Speaking of other racing games. This years NASCAR: Inside Line looks like a pretty big improvement (And has a few non-ovals this year like The Glen and Infineon) and Euthechnyx say they are going to try keep the 360 version region free or even get it released on Games On Demand. Anyone have any experience on the first one?
pros: the graphics are pretty nice, the actual racing physics are pretty nice, the feeling of speed is good, it has 16-player online play, the single-player is pretty well-done, lots of customization options w/r/t both aesthetics and performance (though not quite as deep as say, dirt to daytona for gamecube or papyrus' nascar racing).
cons: the wreck physics are ridiculous (although sometimes humorous), matches with randoms are mostly unplayable, the caution system online is horribly broken (get ready to race 0.6 laps of a 16 lap race! the rest will be spent in caution (because someone started going backward (classic!) on talledega) staring at the big yellow loading screen and watching your car slow down to a crawl in the brief non-loading screen while the dumbass who wrecked the field and his victims (possibly you included) go to the pit and everyone else just... waits. holy shit. what the fuck), the spotter is both terrible and repetitive ("still there")
i have a tiny glint of hope for inside line
forgot to mention the custom car appearances are also bugged/broken online, being that the game will become excessively laggy for everyone if you come into the game with a custom paintjob and/or decals. also, i believe parts of the decal creation system are bugged as well. this game is pretty buggy. i've seen cars driving through the stands, falling through the ground, spinning endlessly in the air, though all of these things happened online. the game also tends to freeze on me, though that might be my disc.
one last thing: iirc, the game does not give you any way to gauge tire temperature, which... sucks _________________
I'll wait for some reviews then. Though Euthechnyx said that the tyre temperature will have a gauge and your pit chief will let you know as well. They also re-recorded all the spotter dialogue to have four times as much as last year.
Meanwhile. Forza Horizon continues to be the most gosh danged beautiful game
Some times I just want to cruise around taking photos of the environment. Its even a PR stunt objective at the outposts. _________________
RobotRocker these screenshots are making Forza Horizon look like some kind of modern-day OutRun. Is this anywhere near accurate? Because if it is, then this is going on the short list. _________________ HeavyViper@Twitter ~~~ HeavyViper@Soundcloud
Blog: Machines That Sing
That is not what it is, but it is a pretty okay time outside of all the grating electronica music fest hit me up on your GPS everyone looks like a wax Maroon 5 member narrative shell surrounding the enjoyable mechanics/environment.
I've played the PC version of Most Wanted. Let's do an open world racer in the least interesting setting possible! Future haters will point at this game and scoff: look what your precious Burnout Paradise was without its lopsided grin and Axl Rose shrieks! And I'll be all fuck off future haters charm is an integral part of a video game. But it'll come out slightly too defensive because the argument was not altogether invalid, after all, these games are doing basically the same thing, involve similarly mellow levels of challenge and even share say 8/10ths of a (beautiful) handling model. At night I will sit in my rocking chair and try to drown in scotch the memory of the one time I loved a game because of style rather than substance.
I'm trying hard not to hold the fact there is a Skrillex ft. the Doors song on the soundtrack against it but holy shit that is the perfect storm.
It's an Audi Quattro. The CR-X is a "Unicorn" car in this game which means you can only get it from the developers.
Oh shit. I've never seen a Quattro before. That is one handsome machine. I'm pretty new to the whole car thing.
Dig around wikipedia and maybe visit the german page for the Quattro, since you can (google-translated) read a bit about the short/long-wheelbase versions.

Bullshit on that "Unicorn" whatsit, the CR-X is my dream car.
Welcome to turn10-games. It shall burn in hell for that bullshit idea of artificially locking away cars. _________________
If Most Wanted (or NFS13, as the executable is named) is running like ass for anyone try disabling ambient occlusion, blur and light scattering as that doubled the framerate for me. It's actually easier to see what's going on without them.
They patched Most Wanted and it's significantly more stable across all the platforms now. Autolog is only working sometimes though and the Origin integration is dumb as hell.
Picked it up today and it's a hell of a lot of fun though Pursuits are a bit aggrivating at times (Get to High Ground or an off track section and switch off the engine or jack another car seems to be the best way to approach it)
The Ambush intros are pretty insane. There was one set up like a horror movie with cops sneaking up on your car on the walls of a warehouse that I lost my shit laughing at. _________________
so the mario f1-kart demo is out now. Played two laps once though I need at least a second or third run before a verdict.
Nevertheless, I think it got me when I thought "Danni Ricciardo (or whatever he's called) will never beat me to the line" and used a red shell bubble to kick him a few places down.
and thus i am asking:
did F1 2012 get patched by now? Can one have some F1-Championship action again? _________________

PC version is on patch #11 with no end in sight now. Wait till the steam sale.
Didn't much care for that F1 Kart game. Trying to have proper braking in a manic kart game kills the pacing and the KERS boost system is really confusing and irritating. Nice environments and track design but not much else going for it. _________________
The new most wanted is not what I wanted :( In the original, police chases were really hard and punished every mistake. In this one, it really seems that the police can not take you down at all. Most Wanted Mrk I had the police doing actual police tactics, but even when purposefully getting into 15-20 minute chases, I can't conceive of them ever taking me down.
Ok, well. Removing the hazards you could use to knock out the police made it nearly impossible to get away ever. At this point, I'm just letting them catch me as soon as the chase starts because they are just flat-out no fun. I do appreciated that the police sometimes mispronounce car names/companies though.

Look for billboard jumps. They will follow and crash most of the time, allowing you to get away. Knowing this makes the pursuit even less fun. _________________ "Wir können die Umwelt durch gezielte Gestaltung verändern. Hey thread, haven't seen you in a while. How have you been?
Here we go. Hopefully with only a few months of bullshit before release. And interestingly, Tourist Trophy has been added to the official GT site as part of the series. GT 5 was originally supposed to be Cars and Bikes. So could be a very interesting end of this generation.
Otherwise in racing game news you can use
- GRID 2 launches the end of this month. Looking a lot better than it did though I'm waiting till someone gets a hold of the full game before purchasing decisions are made
- Lucid Games dropped a teaser about revealing something mid May. It's highly rumoured they have been collaborating with Rare for Project Gotham 5. So may be some interesting times. _________________
I finally got Dirt 3 last week, during a midweek madness on Steam. I haven't played it yet, because I'm still coked out on Trials HD/Evolution PC version. But I will compare it to the mostly excellent Dirt 2, soon enough!
I wonder what changes come now that Kazunori's had a sizable gulp of the Real Thing.

1200 Cars
So a rough hundred new ones then?
Man, Polyphony need to ace this thing right out the gate. None of that "two years to get the basic systems running" crap that we saw with 5.
Tossing all the 5 code is a good sign, though three years is pretty short for another from-scratch engine---maybe this heralds the use of middleware? God I hope so.
Kazunori wrote:
However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments.
That's nearly the same reason he gave for the switch to the 5 engine.
