I can't believe they took an engine with such potential and then made such a MINDNUMBING main quest! Why do I have to close all these oblivion gates! They are all the same! The guild quests are fun. Even most of the main quests are fun. But why so many gates! Even if I have to do like 8 of them, did I really have to do them one after the other? Couldn't they have been spread out? Jesis!
I can't believe I am subjecting myself to this again for achievement points (Played it on pc pre-xbox get).
Wait yes I can. |

Right After you get the Great Welkynd Stone and you have yo get all the other towns to aid Burma.
Shit.
You don't actually have to do that part.
I just looked it up.
Confirmed: Aiding Burma is a side quest, you only have to close the Burma gate and then you can go back to martin. |

That reminds me...are there any sudden, random quests in Morrowind and Oblivion?
Like, in Daggerfall, I remember walking into a random shop and then the shopkeeper accused me of stealing from him and I had to run away from the guards and go to another town and I slinked around a bit and then somebody contacted me saying if you want the real truth go to here and talk to this person and it was very exceiting and then the game crashed and the last save was before I walked into the shop.
Man, I miss Daggerfall. The only system I have that could probably play it is a laptop with a busted hardrive, so even if I got it working, I'd have to fight monsters with a mousepad. Ick. _________________

Wow me too.
I've got everything done save the main quest and fighters guild, but christ are they dull after the thieves guild and dark brotherhood. Whenever I boot it up now I get inclined to just kill people or mess around with spells for 10 minutes before shutting it off. |

At the rate we're going, the absolute closest we're getting to a blockbuster fantasy epic these days is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ), a game with fucking disgusting looking characters and the same god damned guy doing half of the hateful robotic dialogue ("You look fleet of foot. Fast feet are nothing however, without shoes. Come in, to my leather shop, warrior."). I can't get behind a game that features a dynamic, beautiful, high-resolution overworld and then populates said overworld with about three wolves who chase your horse and gives you the option to jump ahead to a town you've never been to before by opening the map on your status screen and clicking on it. In short: if you, game design geniuses, think that fast travel is a feature worth putting in your game, then your slow travel must suck ass and your game world is too fucking large. And then there's the combat -- like pushing mushrooms around in gravy. Swinging a sword and blocking while numbers dance invisbly. It feels cheap; in a way, I kind of liked it better in Morrowind when I could smack a 3D-rendered goblin with my sword and have the game tell me with a straight face that I'd missed. That -- that, my friends, was hilarious. This -- this, my friends, just makes me want to play some Halo. (The game scores two stars for nice graphics and a particularly arousing evening during which my purple-crew-cutted digi-lesbian character Pen'juugo (juugo is Japanese for "fifteen") ran around the world bare-headed and punk as fuck on a horse as Akira Yamaoka's track "Injection of Love" played on neighbor-scaring volume through my television speakers and three wolves chases my horse to no avail. The song repeated, the sun rose, the sun set, and I felt drunk even though such a thing was clearly impossible.) |

Everyone who plays Oblivion on the 360 for any reason other than being forced to is an idiot and their opinion on video games is irrelevent. On the PC, if you spend a lot of time, you can fix enough so that it is playable. The 360 version is just a meritless waste of your finite time on earth. _________________

jeezus christ guys.... I can't imagine most of you even own a 360 so that alone has to jade your impression of this game.
its one of the best the console has to offer.
you CAN'T fast travel to a place you haven't been yet.
half the game you'll be riding your horse to where you're trying to go then the other half you'll be fast travelling to it.
and it IS a huge game so after awhile the fast travelling IS A GOOD THING.
only in Oblivion can you see a misty mountain waaaaay off in the distance and actually ride your horse to it. thats bad ass.
and the combat is cool and very challenging when you start to get into higher levels.
the whole appeal of this game is that its basically never ending with all the side quests and expansion packs.
name one game on a console that has more depth and offers a longer quest and looks prettier doing it.
I love it and I'm a huge fan and theres not just wolves in the woods... jeezus. _________________ PSN Online ID: SylentButDeadly |

It's not the most HIGH DEF ERA POLYGON PUSHING HDR-OUT THE ASS game, but I value art direction over POLYGON POWER any day of the week. Morrowind is a strange, alien land full of weird beasts, strange plant life, and interesting, unique architecture.
Oblivion is just generic fantasy garbage. I look forward to the new expansion, as it looks like it's going to add the personality back to the series. |

yeah see i played it on 360 because
1. it was free
2. i had no computer
i think i didnt like it because!
1. i hadn't been DYING for it
also, i don't want to hae to FIX a game by spending a lot of time with it; the developers should do that.
also, in my "review" i was comparing the game to zelda, which may or may not be fair.

I like the realistic approach. lets me know I'm playing a WRPG.
I mean don't get me wrong, I love the character design of WoW and Blue Dragon and all that but I also really like Oblivion's "close to life" look including the ugly ass medieval villagers. reminds me of Dungeons and Dragons.
I mean, as realistic as Oblivion gates and Daedric knights and shit can be ya know. _________________ PSN Online ID: SylentButDeadly |

there is this one quest where you go in a painting. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL. THE FUCKING SKY IS BLUE. Why can't the whole game be like that!
I love that it has to be the "realm of madness" for a game to be in color, like it is "madness" to have colors other than brown and black.

Oblivion yuck. And those creature designs are just fucking awful. Agreed that bland fantasy tripe is not worth 999,999+ hours of my time. And neither is having to mod a fucking game to make it become worth playing.
Where were the Morrowind looks like PS1 comments three years ago when the MS supporters counted Morrowind as the pinnacle of gloriousness that elevated their console above the others? |

I never played Morrowind three years ago because even then I thought it looked like ass and it was only until I downloaded a gameplay trailer for Oblivion and watched it on my HDTV did I realize it was a perfect candidate to get some use out of my TV. riding a horse through mountain meadows and pausing to watch the breeze sway stalks of wheat was exactly what I was looking for.
I was literally at the game store 10 minutes after watching the trailer and after an hour of making my character look like the most hideous, inbred human being to ever walk the earth I was in the game. _________________ PSN Online ID: SylentButDeadly |

I think
a) people can have absurd definitions of what makes a game playable, which can sometimes be divorced from common sense or any perspective on gaming history, and that
b) the availability of free modifications that substantially alter the gameplay experience cannot in any fairness or sensibility be considered a negative. _________________

The game would have been good if there was more than like 4 different types of dungeons. I mean there were caves, sewers, oblivion gates, and ancient ruins. Then just litter generic dungeons like these all throughout the land you have the DEEPEST MOST DYNAMIC LIVING BREATHING WORLD IN A COMPUTER GAME!
You could take some awesoe scenic screenshots though. Also there are a lot more creatures in the world then just wolves, rats, etc. Problem is they only appear as you gain levels so in the beginning of the game there is wolves, and rats. Then later in the game it's boars, minotaurs, and tigers.
I beat the game btw and put 70 hours into my game. I will also probably end up playing the expansion. _________________

| As a huge fan of Morrowind, Oblivion is about the biggest insult to my intellegence I've ever experienced. M was not without its problems, but instead of fixing them, they decided to change just about everything that did work well into this generic, 'mexican food for the elderly' mess. I expect Fallout 3 to be much the same. |
