I love that it has to be the "realm of madness" for a game to be in color, like it is "madness" to have colors other than brown and black.

Ah, Western game development we love you. Though to be fair, you forgot grey and sewage green. But fuck that "color" shit, that's for homos and i play halo 2 and gears of war so i ain't no homo right?

i know a lot of games everywhere need better color direction, but sheesh, man. Every screenshot of Oblivion I've seen sports beautiful colors. There are some games with terrible palettes, but oblivion isn't one of them, and the difference you're seeing between western and japanese developers in this regard is all in your head.

the whole appeal of this game is that its basically never ending with all the side quests and expansion packs.
name one game on a console that has more depth and offers a longer quest and looks prettier doing it.

Morrowind?

Morrowind looks like a PS1 game.

It's not the most HIGH DEF ERA POLYGON PUSHING HDR-OUT THE ASS game, but I value art direction over POLYGON POWER any day of the week. Morrowind is a strange, alien land full of weird beasts, strange plant life, and interesting, unique architecture.

Oblivion is just generic fantasy garbage. I look forward to the new expansion, as it looks like it's going to add the personality back to the series.[/quote]

Both just elf+orc warhammer greasy trenchcoat nonsense

plotwise/stylistically anyway

Have you actually played Morrowind? I'd place it pretty far from Lord of the Rings or whatever your fantasy benchmark is. The main quest does dip into that land from time to time, but there's quite a lot of political/economic intrigue to be had, as well as the sheer joy of driving into a ruin in search of treasure, completely unsure of what you'll find and what will try to kill you before you can find it.

If you play Elder Scrolls games for the plot, you're kind of missing the point.
