...or is there some other way to get them, say on CD from a brick&mortar store of some sort? _________________

You can download them from Telltale direct, I believe, although you cant find them in stores, yet...
My guess is that once all the episodes have been released digitally, a compilation of sorts will be available via B&M. _________________

for those who have played the sam and max episodes:
do they use the same engine as the bone games?
More importantly, do they play similarly to the bone games (unfortunately mind-numbing and kind of flaky) _________________ ( ( |

I've played the first two episodes so far. One sentence review: They're pretty good, if you like adventure games! I find I don't notice too much adventure-gamey bullshit. The second one is much tighter than the first, but they've both got some clever bits in them.
Basically, take a high-quality AGS game, and bump everything (graphics, writing, puzzle design, but not length) up a notch. Two notches would be pushing it.

| Shit that Sam and Max Surfing the Highway book is going for $200 on amazon. I'd sell it but that's one of my most treasured childhood possessions. |

Yea, the word is that when the entire "Season" is done (6 episodes I believe) they will all be available at retail in a single package for 34.99. Not bad I say. I'm going to wait and pick that up, as I can't be bothered with all this episodic nonsense which is constantly babbled about on gamasutra, although no one seems to want it. _________________

| The trailer for Episode 4 is kind of amazing. I'm pretty excited. Right now only Telltale can have Max on the presidential podium and the quote "Abe Lincoln must die" and make me smile. |

I've got the EP 4 sitting in my inbox right now, but I refuse to play it or even look at it until I've done the other three! _________________

I'm enjoying the new episodes. I'm a little bummed that they've reused all the comments on items in locations that haven't changed over the course of the episodes, but the episodes to-date have remained consistently funny. They're doing an admirable job of achieving their goal of making the videogame equivilent of a sit-com TV series. _________________

Am I the only one who thinks the new S&M's are really bad?
For starters the puzzles are pathetic, majority of them just feel like you have to talk to a character t progress rather than some clever use of items.
The humour is lacking. The Lucasarts one made me literaly cry with laughter, of the 3 new ones I have played I managed a slight chuckle in episode 1.
I'd rather play Escape from Monkey Island than this.
Or am I being overly critical? Grim Fandango is currently occupying my time, which on every level outshines S&M. _________________

Well yes and no. Those old Lucasarts games are still the cream of the crop, and it would take a lot to top them in most people's minds. I've certainly laughed a good deal from these Sam and Max episodes though.
As for the difficulty, I like it where it is. I myself am not an adventure game guru, but from what I've heard (including from people on this forum), the puzzles in some of the old "classics" were absurd to the point where I'd have no interest in playing anything like them. Telltale wants a game that lots of people can play without trouble, perhaps to get them interested in the genre again. |
