Never having a Sony machine I kind of missed out on most of the Metal Gear goodness. I've seen friends play some of MGS2 and it seemed really cool but this is all I've played of the franchise since the NES days.

Am I missing something? This just doesn't grab me. How far before things get really cool? Is playing this emulated on a huge screen via my X-Box part of why I'm not getting this or is Metal Gear just not really my thing?

ghost babel is a pale shadow of the proper MGS games. It's good on its own right but the Playstation versions are certainly worth playing.

MGS2 was ported to xbox you know!

ghost babel is much more focused than the metal gear solid games. it was developed as a videogame, not as one of hideo kojima's fantasy movie scripts shoehorned into videogame form. the stage structure keeps the game tight and moving forward; there's none of the back-tracking that metal gear 2 and metal gear solid players complain about. the level design is based around the game mechanics and plays off of and expands on them in clever ways. the game never takes a back-seat to the story; rather, dialogue appears mostly in skippable chunks at the beginning and end of each stage instead of cluttering a boss fight or sneaking scene. and the story and characters happen to be great without relying on nonsense about dna and memeformation.

it's probably my favorite metal gear game.

I kind of hope that after Kojima leaves MGS that they at least make another game that is, as dess just talked about, more interested in being a videogame.

The original Metal Gear Solid was ported to PC, and it's pretty good! Simple, neat, VR missions, everything. You miss a few of the fourth-wall breaking jokes in the Mantis fight but that's about it. And I generally avoid saying this, but it should be fairly easy to obtain for obvious reasons!
